17. yüzyıl ilk yarısında Galata’da servet eşitsizliği ve sosyal hayat : tereke kayıtlarından bulgular

Abstract

Kadı sicillerinde bulunan ve miras paylaşım sürecinin çıktıları olan tereke kayıtları sıradan insanlara dair eşsiz bilgiler sunar. Bu tez, tereke kayıtları ışığında 17. yüzyıl ilk yarısında Galata’da servet dağılımını ve sosyal ilişkileri konu alan bir aşağıdan tarih denemesidir. Çalışmada Galata’daki eşitsizliğin tespitine ek olarak cinsiyet, unvan, konum ve birtakım belirteçlerin servet dağılımı ile olası ilişkisi tartışıldı. İlaveten servet eşitsizliğinin farklı servet formları üzerinden ayrıştırıldığı çalışmada tereke uygulaması üzerinden vergilendirmenin eşitsizlik üzerindeki muhtemel etkisi incelendi. Son olarak aile, vasiyet pratikleri, gündelik hayata dair tespitler üzerinden incelen dönemin sosyal yapısı yorumlandı.

Probate records, which are the outputs of the inheritance process found in Court Registers, provide unique information about ordinary people. In light of the probate records, this thesis is a study of history from below that discuss the distribution of wealth and social relations in Galata in the first half of the seventeenth century. In addition to the determination of inequality in Galata, the possible relationship of gender, title, location and some markers with wealth distribution was discussed in the study. Additionally, the study in which wealth inequality was decomposed by different forms of wealth, the possible impact of taxation on inequality through the probate process was also examined. Finally, the social structure of the period, which was examined through family, will practices, determinations about everyday life, was interpreted.
