The effects of supply chain integration on supply chain capabilities

Abstract

Tedarik zinciri yönetimi, yıllardır çokça çalışılan ve oldukça önemli bir konu olmuştur. Tedarik zinciri entegrasyonu da literatürdeki en popüler konulardan biridir. Birçok araştırma, tedarik zinciri entegrasyonunu, türlerini (tedarikçi entegrasyonu, müşteri entegrasyonu ve içsel entegrasyon) ve aralarındaki ilişkiyi göstermektedir. Tedarik zinciri entegrasyonunun firmaların performansı üzerindeki etkileri literatürde tartışılmış ve test edilmiştir. Çalışmalarda tedarik zincirinin performansından ve tedarik zinciri yönetimi ve operasyonel alanlarda uygulama sürecinden elde edilen başarı seviyesine yer verilmiş olmakla birlikte, çok az sayıda çalışma, tedarik zinciri süreci entegrasyonu (iç entegrasyon, dış entegrasyon) ile tedarik zinciri sürecinin sonuç kalitesi üzerindeki etkisi arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemiştir. Tedarik zinciri yetenekleri araştırılırken, tedarik zinciri stratejileri ile organizasyonel yönetim ve performans arasındaki ilişkiyi önemli ölçüde etkileyebileceği fark edilmiştir. Sonuç olarak, araştırmacılar gelecekte bu tür ilişkilerden ve proje stratejilerinin ve planlarının geliştirilmesinden yararlanacaklardır. Bu çalışmada, tedarik zinciri entegrasyonunun tedarik zinciri performansı üzerindeki etkisini ve bunun karşılığında tüm işletme performansı üzerindeki etkisi incelenmiştir. Tedarik zincirinin performansı, inovasyon yeteneği ile birlikte tedarik zincirinin operasyonel ve organizasyonel performansı çok boyutlu bir anket kullanılarak ölçülmüş ve test edilmiştir. Anket, 136 Ürdünlü şirkete dağıtılmış ve tedarik zinciri ile ilgili çalışanlar tarafından doldurulmuştur. Yapılan çalışma, iş performansı üzerindeki etkiyi ortaya çıkarmıştır. Dolaysıyla firmaların tedarik zincirinin seviyesi kendi yetenekleri ve performansları aracılığıyla sahip olduğu tedarik zinciri entegrasyonu seviyesi belirlemektedir. Başka bir deyişle, tedarik zinciri entegrasyon seviyesinin (içsel entegrasyon, müşteri ve tedarikçi entegrasyonu) tedarik zincirinin performansına (operasyonel, organizasyonel, inovasyon) etkisini ve iş performansına nasıl yansıdığı ortaya konmuştur. Ayrıca, çalışma sonuçları tedarik zinciri uygulamalarına veya stratejilerine örnek olarak üçüncü taraf lojistik veya dikey entegrasyon stratejilerinin kullanılmasının, tedarik zinciri entegrasyonu ile tedarik zinciri performansı arasındaki ilişki üzerinde herhangi bir moderatör etkisi olmadığını göstermiştir.

Supply chain management has been a very commonly studied and highly important topic over the years, and one of the most popular topics is supply chain integration. Many types of research illustrate supply chain integration, its categories (supplier integration, customer integration, and internal integration), and their relation. Also, the supply chain integration effects on the performance of the firms have been discussed and tested along with the literature. Prior works had talked about the performance of the supply chain itself and the level of success produced from the process of supply chain management and implementation in the operational fields. However, very little few studies have examined the direct and absolute correlation between the supply chain process integration (internal integration, external integration), and the effect on the output quality of the supply chain process. While researching supply chain capabilities, it has been discovered that it may significantly impact the relationship between supply chain strategies and organizational management and performance. As a result, researchers are more likely to profit from such correlations in the future and the development of project strategies and plans. In this article, we examine the effect of supply chain integration exerted on the performance of the supply chain, and in return the effect on the whole business performance. The performance of the supply chain is measured by quantifying the operational performance, the supply chain's organizational performance, and the innovation capability. These variables are determined and tested through a survey/ questionnaire that resolves the variables through a collection of questions. The questionnaire is distributed and filled by a population of 136 supply chain-related employees, who work in Jordanian companies that include supply chain processes through its operations. The study reveals and illustrates the effect exerted on the business performance; due to the level of supply chain integration the firm has through the capabilities/ performance of the supply chain itself. In other words, it investigates the effect of the level of supply chain integration (internal integration, customer & supplier integration) on the performance of the supply chain (operational, organizational, innovation), and how does it reflect on the business performance. Also, it shows that the use of third-party logistics or vertical integration strategies, as examples of some supply chain practices or strategies, have no moderation effect on the relationship between the supply chain integration and the supply chain performance.
