Abstract
Bugün Ortadoğu denilince ilk akla gelen petrol ve petrol bulunmasının bölge ülkeleri üzerindeyarattığı değişim etkisi oluyor. Bu noktada, bölge ülkelerinden Birleşik Arap Emirlikleri’dedünyaca bilinen Dubai ve Abu Dabi gibi Emirlikleri ve geçmişten bugüne geçirdiği değişim ileöne çıkanlar arasındadır. Bu kapsamda çalışmada, bu ülkede keşfedilen petrolün ve ondansağlanan gelirlerin ülke yerleşimine ne gibi bir etkisi olduğu üzerinde durulmuştur.Bu çerçevede, araştırmanın ana amacı Birleşik Arap Emirlikleri’nde 1950’li yılların sonlarındakeşfedilen petrolün ve ondan elde edilen gelirlerin ülkeyi özellikle yerleşim kavramı üzerindennasıl etkilediğinin gösterilmesidir. Bu etki yazılı, istatistiksel ve görsel kaynakların kullanımıile gösterilmeye çalışılmış olup, yine araştırmada çizilmek istenen genel çerçeve ise geçmiştebalıkçılıkla uğraşan küçük bir kasaba görüntüsündeki ülkenin son yarım asırda geçirmiş olduğudönüşümün coğrafyanın beşeri, ekonomik ve fiziki dalları üzerinden gösterilmeye çalışılmasıolmuştur.Araştırmada hem literatür taramasından elde edilen veriler hem de ülkeye gerçekleştirilen sahaaraştırması sırasında elde edilen görseller kullanılmıştır. Literatür taraması kısmında,kitaplardan, makalelerden, tezlerden ve bu ülkeyle ilgili yayınlanan raporlardan yararlanılmışolup, bunların yanı sıra ülkeye dair grafikler, haritalar ve tablolar ile çalışmanınzenginleştirilmesine çalışılmıştır. Tüm bunlara ek olarakta, saha araştırması sırasında edinilengörsellerle çalışmanın temel vurgusunun daha da pekiştirilmesi sağlanmıştır.Özetle, ülkeye saha araştırılmasına gidilmesi, konuya dair elde edilen tüm kaynaklarınderlenmesi ve yazım aşaması da dahil olarak iki seneyi aşkın bir süreye yayılan bu tezde,günümüzde yıllık 50.000 $’a yaklaşan kişi başı gelire ve 9.6 milyonu aşan nüfusa sahip olanülkenin, gelir kaynağının sadece inci avcılığı, gemi inşa işleri ve balıkçılık olduğu dönemlerdenbugünkü seviyesine ulaşmasının altında yatan temel nedenin ülkede petrolün keşfi ve ondanelde edilen gelirler olduğu vurgulanarak, bu gelirlerin ülkede yerleşme konusunda yaşanandönüşüm sürecini nasıl etkilediği irdelenmiştir.Ortadoğu, Birleşik Arap Emirlikleri, Petrol, Nüfus, Şehir Hayatı.
Today, when the Middle East is mentioned, the first thing that comes to mind is oil and theeffect of the oil discovery on the countries of the region. At this point, among the countries ofthe region, the United Arab Emirates, with the world-renowned Dubai and Abu Dhabi Emirates,are among the prominent ones with the change it has made from past to present. In this context,the oil discovery in this country and the impact of revenues provided from oil on the settlementof the country will be emphasized.In this context, the main purpose of the research is to show how in the late 1950s the discoveredoil and revenues provided from it in the United Arab Emirates affected the country especiallythrough the concept of settlement. This effect will be tried to be demonstrated by the use ofwritten, statistical and visual resources, and the general framework that will be drawn in theresearch will be to try to show the transformation of the country in the past half century in theimage of a small town engaged in fishing in the past through the human, economic and physicalbranches of the geography.Both the data obtained from the literature review and the visuals obtained during the fieldresearch conducted in the country will be used in the research. In the literature review section,books, articles, theses and published reports about this country will be utilized, as well asgraphics, maps and tables about the country will be enriched. In addition to this, the basicemphasis of the study will be further strengthened by visuals obtained during the field research.In summary, this thesis spans over two years including field research, compilation of all thesources obtained and the writing stage. Today, at this country-has a per capita income ofapproximately $ 50,000 and a population of exceeding 9.6 million- the discovery of oil andrevenues provided from oil as the main reason for reaching its present level from the periodswhen pearl fishing, shipbuilding and fishery will be emphasized and how these revenues affectthe transformation process in settling in the country will be examined.
