Publication: On self sovereign identity based guardianship
Abstract
Kullanıcı Egemen Kimlik (SSI), uzun süredir devam eden kimlik problemine umut vadedençözümler getiren yeni bir yaklasımdır. Dijital kimliklerin kullanımı günden güneartarken, ehliyet ve pasaport gibi fiziksel kimlikler ise yeni teknolojiler sayesinde dijitallesmeyebaslamıstır. Bu iki dünyanın gitgide iç içe geçmesi ile yeni bir kimlik yönetimsistemi ihtiyacı dogdu. SSI tam da bu konuda, mahremiyet, müsterek çalısma, rıza gibiprensipleri göz önünde bulundurarak yeni bir model sunmaktadır.SSI 3.parti güvenilir bir kurulusa gerek kalmadan kisinin kendi kimlik verilerini yönetmesineizin verir. Kisi bu verilerinin kimlerle ve ne kadarının paylasılacagından kendisi sorumludur.Bunu da altyapısında blockchain ve VC gibi teknolojileri kullanarak gerçeklestirir.Bu tür çözümlerin yaygın olarak kullanılması için mevcut çözümlerinde gözönünde bulundurulmasıgerekir. Bu kapsamda dolaylı SSI kontrolü yöntemleri bu çalısmadaincelenmis ve gerçek hayat senaryolarıüzerinden kavram ispatlama yapılmıstır.özellikle guardianship kavramı SSI çözümünün kitlesel benimsemesi için oldukça önemlidir.Mevcut çalısmalarda belirli çalısma grupları guardianship üzerine arastırmalarınadevam etmektedir.Bu çalısmada gerçek hayattan velayet senaryosu baz alınarak guardianship çatısı tasarlanmıstır.Bu senaryonun seçilmesinin sebebi, ortak velayet gibi senaryolarda gerçeklesecekolan bir kisinin iki vasisi olma durumunu ihtiva etmesidir. Bu durumda bu iki kisininortaklasa olarak vasinin dijital kimligini yönetmesi söz konusu olacaktır. Bu problemiüstesinden gelen Custody Frameworkünün kavram ispatlaması yapılmıs, örnek bir SSInetworkü üzerinde modellenmis ve mevcut sistemler ile performans analizi yapılmıstır.Sonuç olarak tasarlanan Custody Frameworkünün ekstra yük getirmeden mevcut sistemlerile uyumlu bir sekilde çalıstıgı gösterilmistir.
Self Sovereign Identity (SSI) is a new approach that develops promising solutions on thelongstanding Identity problem. While the digital identities are increasing day by day, thephysical Identities such as passport, driver’s license, have started to be digitalized thanksto new technologies. With these two worlds getting more intertwined, a new identitymanagement system was needed for identities containing the most critical information.SSI comes into play in this regard and proposes a new model with certain principles suchas privacy, Interoperability, and consent.SSI allows the person to manage the identity data without a 3rd party trusted institution.The person is solely responsible for her own identity data. She decides whom to sharewith, what information to share. It realizes this by using technologies such as Blockchainand Verifiable Credential in its infrastructure. For the widespread use of such solutions,solutions already used in daily life should also be considered. In this context, indirect SSIcontrol methods are examined in this study, and proof of concept solutions are made overreal life scenarios. In particular, the guardianship that occurs when the person becomesunable to manage their own identity is very important for the mass adoption of SSI.Several Working Groups continue their work on guardianship. In the current studies,an exemplary guardianship trust framework has been created on a real life refugee girlscenario.In this study, a guardianship framework was designed based on real life custodianshipscenario. The reason for choosing this scenario is that in cases such as joint custody,one person has two guardians; therefore, management of the dependent’s identity mustbe jointly carried out. A proof of concept was made for the Custody Framework, whichovercame this problem. Modeling of the framework was carried out on a sample SSInetwork, and performance analysis was performed with existing systems.As a result, it has been shown that the designed framework can work without overloadingthe existing systems.
