Yabancı dil öğretiminde ana dili kullanımı

Abstract

Yabancı dil öğretimi yapılan sınıflarda ana dili kullanımı üzerine öğretmenler arasında farklı fikirler olması öğretimde niteliksel farklılıkların oluşmasına sebep olabilir. Fikir ve uygulamadaki bu değişik yaklaşımlar bu konu üzerine bir araştırma yapılması gerekliliğini de beraberinde getirir. Bu doğrultuda, yabancı dil öğretmenleri arasında uygulamada ortaya çıkan sorunlara yanıt bulunması ve konunun aydınlığa kavuşturulması gerekmektedir. Bu yüksek lisans tez çalışmasıyla yapılan araştırmalar ve görüşmelerle yabancı dil öğretiminde ana dilinin yeri ve öneminin belirlenmesi hedeflenmiştir. Öğretmenlere anket ve görüşme formları uygulanmıştır. Öğretim esnasında ana diline başvurulmasının nedeni ve sınırları, ana diline başvurmayı zorunlu kılan durumlar sorgulanmıştır. Çalışmanın sonucunda yabancı dil öğretiminde ana dili kullanımının olumlu etkilerinin olduğu görülmüştür. Dersin gidişatını kolaylaştırmak için zaman zaman ana dili kullanımı gerektiği sonucuna varılmıştır. Öğrencilerin duygusal durumları (korku, kaygı, heyecan, endişe, vb) hazırbulunuşluk, ilgi, istek ve güdülenme düzeyleri ana dili kulanımı değişkenleri arasında görülmüştür. Dersin gidişatına olumlu bir hava kattığı tespit edilmiş ve zaman tasarrufu konusunda göz ardı edilemeyecek oranda bir iyileşme sağladığı görülmüştür.

The fact that there are different opinions among the instructors on the use of mother tongue in foreign language teaching classes may cause qualitative differences in teaching. These different approaches in idea and practice bring with it the necessity of conducting a research on this subject. In this direction, it is necessary to find answers to the questions that arise in practice among foreign language teachers and to clarify the issue. It is aimed to determine the place and importance of mother tongue in foreign language teaching with the researches and interviews conducted with this master's thesis. Questionnaires and interview forms were applied to the teachers. The reason and limits of using the mother tongue during teaching and the situations that make it compulsory to use the mother tongue were questioned. As a result of the study, it has been seen that the use of mother tongue in foreign language teaching has positive effects. The learners' emotional states (fear, anxiety, excitement, etc.), readiness, interest, desire and motivation levels were seen among the variables of mother tongue use. It has been determined that it has added a positive atmosphere to the course of the course and it has been seen that it provides an undeniable improvement in time saving.
