Publication: Normal doğum yapan kadınların doğum memnuniyetini etkileyen faktörlerin belirlenmesi
Abstract
Objective: This study was conducted to determine the factors affecting the birth satisfaction of women undergoing normal delivery. Materials and Methods: This study was designed and conducted as a descriptive, cross-sectional, and correlational study. The universe of the study consisted of women who gave birth at a city hospital affiliated with the Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate between June 15, 2022, and June 14, 2023. The sample included 303 postpartum women who had experienced normal delivery for the first time and met the inclusion criteria for participation in the study. Data collection tools used included the Postpartum Information Form, the Childbirth Experience Questionnaire (CEQ), the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), the Childbirth Comfort Questionnaire (CCQ), the Wijma Delivery Expectancy/ Experience Questionnaire Version B (WDEQ-B), Perception for the Scale of Supportive Care Given During Labor (PSSCGDL), and the Birth Satisfaction Scale Short Form (BSS-SF). The data were collected through face-to-face interviews. Results: The average age of the postpartum women participating in the study is 26.56 ± 4.09 years. The total score of the Birth Satisfaction Scale Short Form (BSS-SF) for the postpartum women is 18.67 ± 7.32, and 62.7% reported moderate satisfaction. It was determined that as the scores of the CEQ, CCQ, and PSSCGDL increased, BSS-SF increased. Conversely, as the scores of the WDEQ-B and VAS increased, BSS-SF decreased (p<0.001). The results of the multivariate linear regression analysis revealed that fear of childbirth, perception of supportive care during labor, birth experience, attendance at prenatal check-ups, and whether the pregnancy was planned were significant predictors of postpartum birth satisfaction. The study found that these five variables explained 87.2% of the variance in postpartum birth satisfaction. Conclusion: Postpartum women had a moderate level of birth satisfaction. Factors affecting birth satisfaction included fear of childbirth, perception of supportive care during labor, birth experience, attendance at prenatal check-ups, and whether the pregnancy was planned.
