Publication: Hilafet ve siyaset: Osmanlı Devleti’nin hac hizmetleri (1798- 1876)
Abstract
18. yüzyıl sonları ile 19. yüzyıl başlarında Mısır’daki Fransız işgali Osmanlı Devleti’nin bölgedeki siyasi varlığına büyük bir darbe vurmuştur. Osmanlı Devleti aynı sıralarda Hicaz’daki Vehhabi isyanı ile de uğraşmaktaydı. Osmanlı hilafeti bu olumsuz siyasî gelişmeler neticesinde haccın da kesintiye uğramasıyla büyük bir prestij kaybı yaşamıştır. Osmanlı Devleti bunun hemen akabinde uyguladığı politikalarla Hicaz’da prestij restorasyonuna girişmiş, bölgede idarî yapılanma ve merkezle re-entegrasyon sürecini başlatmıştır. Bu çalışmada bu süreç ele alınmakta, özellikle bunun önemli bir öğesini oluşturan hac politikalarının işleyiş ve neticeleri incelenmektedir.
The French occupation of Egypt at the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century threw a big blow on the Ottoman State’s political presence in the region. At the same time the Otoman State was dealing with the Wahabi revolt in the Hejaz. Interruption of the Hajj under the impact of these negative developments caused a loss of prestige to the Ottoman Caliphate. With policies it implemented promptly the Ottoman State undertook to restore its prestige in the Hejaz and launched a process towards the region’s administrative restructuring and reintegration with the center. This study looks into this process with a focus on the functioning and the outcomes of one of its important elements, the Hajj policies. Egypt, Wahabi, Hajj, Hejaz, Caliphate.
