Çokkültürlülük tartışmaları bağlamında mülteci ve sığınmacıların medyadaki temsili

Abstract

Çokkültürlülük; küreselleşme kaynaklı göçler, yerinden edilmeler, etnik çatışmalar gibi toplumsal karışıklıkların giderilmesine çözüm üretme kapasitesine sahip olan bir teoridir. Farklı kimliklerin tanınması ve bu kimliklerin eşit oranda saygı görmesi gibi talepleri içeren teori, demokrasinin çoğulcu bir tutum sergilenmesinin önündeki engeller ile karşılaşabilir. Farklı çokkültürlülük yaklaşımlarının oturtulduğu temeller çokkültürlülük düşüncesinin sınırlanmasına ve dar bir alanda politika üretmesine neden olabilir. Çokkültürlülük politikalarının toplum genelinde kabul görmesi ve içselleştirilmesi için dezavantajlı grupların temsili son derece önemlidir. “Ötekiler” ile karşılaşma alanlarından biri olan medya, mülteci ve sığınmacı temsilleri ile toplumsal bir algı yaratma potansiyeline sahiptir. Bu bağlamda, çalışmada çokkültürlülük ve demokrasi kavramlarına yönelik literatür tarama yöntemi kullanılarak argümanlar oluşturulacak; Güneydoğu Anadolu Bölgesi’nin üç büyük kenti olan Diyarbakır, Gaziantep ve Şanlıurfa illerindeki yerel gazete haberleri sosyolojik analiz yöntemi ile incelenecek, haberlerde çokkültürlülük izleri aranacaktır.

Multiculturalism; It is a theory that has the capacity to produce solutions for the elimination of social disturbances such as migrations, displacements and ethnic conflicts caused by globalization. The theory, which includes demands such as the recognition of different identities and the equal respect of these identities, may encounter obstacles in front of a pluralistic attitude of democracy. The foundations on which different multicultural approaches are built may limit the idea of multiculturalism and produce policies in a narrow area. The representation of disadvantaged groups is extremely important for the acceptance and internalization of multiculturalism policies throughout the society. The media, which is one of the areas of encounter with the “others”, has the potential to create a social perception with the representations of refugees and asylum seekers in its publications. In this context, In the study, arguments will be formed by using the literature review method for the concepts of multiculturalism and democracy; Local newspaper news in Diyarbakır, Gaziantep and Şanlıurfa, the three largest cities of the Southeastern Anatolia Region, will be analyzed with the method of discourse analysis, and traces of multiculturalism will be sought in the news.
