Abstract

Ortaokul matematik ders kitaplarında toplumsal cinsiyetin temsili Bu araştırma, ortaokul matematik ders kitaplarında toplumsal cinsiyet temsillerini incelemek amacıyla yürütülmüştür. Nitel araştırma desenine dayalı olarak gerçekleştirilen çalışmada doküman incelemesi yöntemi kullanılmış, Millî Eğitim Bakanlığı Talim ve Terbiye Kurulu tarafından onaylanmış ve 2024–2025 eğitim-öğretim yılında okutulmak üzere hazırlanmış beş farklı matematik ders kitabı veri kaynağını oluşturmuştur. Veriler, içerik analizi yöntemi ile incelenmiştir. Görsel içerikler figür tipi, cinsiyet, yaş, eylem, mekân ve meslek gibi boyutta; metinsel içerikler ise cinsiyet vurgusu, toplumsal rol, meslek atıfı, aile içi sorumluluk ve güç göstergesi gibi beş tema altında analiz edilmiştir. Bulgular, kadın ve erkek figürler arasında gerek niceliksel gerekse niteliksel açıdan belirgin eşitsizlikler bulunduğunu göstermektedir. Erkek figürler daha fazla sayıda, görünür ve aktif rollerle temsil edilirken; kadın figürler çoğunlukla edilgen, destekleyici ve ev içi rollerle sınırlı biçimde sunulmuştur. Ayrıca mekân ve meslek temsillerinde de cinsiyete dayalı ayrışmalar dikkat çekmektedir. Elde edilen bulgular, literatürle birlikte tartışılmış ve ders kitaplarının toplumsal cinsiyet eşitliğine duyarlı biçimde yeniden yapılandırılması gerektiği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

Representation of gender in middle school mathematics textbooks This study was conducted to examine gender representations in middle school mathematics textbooks. The study, which was conducted based on a qualitative research design, used the document review method and created a data source from five different mathematics textbooks approved by the Ministry of National Education Board of Education and Training and prepared to be taught in the 2024–2025 academic year. Data were analyzed using content analysis method. Visual content was analyzed under seven themes such as figure type, gender, age, action, place and profession; textual content was analyzed under five themes such as gender emphasis, social role, professional attribution, family responsibility and power indicator. The findings show that there are significant inequalities between female and male figures, both quantitatively and qualitatively. While male figures are represented in more visible and active roles, female figures are mostly presented in passive, supportive and domestic roles. In addition, gender-based separations are also striking in spatial and occupational representations. The findings were discussed together with the literature and it was concluded that textbooks should be restructured in a way that is sensitive to gender equality.
