Abstract
Bu tezde, Antroposen Çağı’nı insanlığın doğa üzerindeki etkilerini anlamak adına ortaya çıkan ve jeolojik bir dönem olarak kabul edilmesini tanımlayan Antroposen kavramını incelemektedir. Modernizmin getirdiği köklü değişikliklerle birlikte, insan faaliyetlerinin gezegen üzerindeki etkileri giderek artmış, ekosistemler değişmiş ve çeşitli doğal dengeler bozulmuştur. Antroposen çağı, insan faaliyetlerinin gezegen üzerindeki etkilerinin belirginleştiği birdönem olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Özellikle endüstriyel devrimden bu yana geçen dönemi ifade eder. Antroposen tartışmalarında 2000 yılından bu yana önemli bir soru gündemdedir: İnsan türü, Paul J. Crutzen ve Eugene F. Stoermer’ın ileri sürdüğü gibi, gerçekten de jeolojik bir güç olacak kadar etkili stratigrafik izler bırakıp bırakmadıkları tartışılacaktır. İnsan tarihi jeolojik zaman ölçeğinde oldukça kısa olmaktadır, ancak Crutzen ve Stoermer’a göre Antroposen’in etkisi, gezegenin biyokimyasal döngülerinden jeolojik olarak fosil kayıtlarına ve kaya katmanlarına kadar gözlemlenmektedir. Bu doğrultuda tez, Antroposen Çağı’nın karmaşıklığını, modernizmin etkilerini ve Antroposen Sanatı’nın bu dinamiklerle nasıl başa çıktığını anlamaya yönelik bir analiz sunar. Bu tez özetle Antroposen Çağı’nı, modernizmin getirdiği değişimleri ve Antroposen Sanatı’nın bu bağlamdaki rolünü inceleyecektir. Ayrıca, Antroposen sanatı içinde önemli bir tema olan buzun, hem fiziksel hem de sembolik anlamda nasıl kullanıldığını inceleyecektir.
This thesis examines the concept of Anthropocene, which defines the Anthropocene Epoch as a geological epoch that emerged in order to understand the effects of humanity on nature. With the radical changes brought by modernism, the effects of human activities on the planet have gradually increased, ecosystems have changed and various natural balances have been disrupted. The Anthropocene epoch is defined as a period in which the effects of human activities on the planet have become evident. It refers especially to the period since the industrial revolution. Since 2000, an important question has been on the agenda in the Anthropocene discussions: Whether the human species has indeed left stratigraphic traces that are effective enough to be a geological force, as suggested by Paul J. Crutzen and Eugene F. Stoermer. Human history is relatively short on the geological timescale, but according to Crutzen and Stoermer, the impact of the Anthropocene is observed geologically from the biochemical cycles of the planet to the fossil record and rock strata. Accordingly, the thesis offers an analysis tounderstand the complexity of the Anthropocene Epoch, the effects of modernism and how Anthropocene Art copes with these dynamics. In summary, this thesis will analyse the Anthropocene Age, the changes brought aboutby modernism and the role of Anthropocene Art in this context. It will also examine how ice, an important theme in Anthropocene art, is used both physically and symbolically.
