Publication: Mekan sosyolojisi bağlamında kitap kafelerin insan ve mekan etkileşimi açısından incelenmesi : Ankara örneği
Abstract
Kamusal mekânlar, toplumun üyelerini bir araya getiren ve gündelik hayatın akışınınrahatlıkla gözlemlenebildiği alanlardır. Türkiye’de özellikle 1960’lardan sonra mekânındeğişimi sonucu sosyalleşme aracı olan kafeler de dönüşüm geçirmiş ve popülerlikkazanmıştır. Son yıllarda kitap ve kahve kültürünü bir arada sunan kitap kafeler popüler birmekân olarak öne çıkmıştır. Bu tez, insan ve mekân etkileşimini kitap kafeler üzerindensosyolojik olarak incelemektedir. Tez, günümüzde yaşanan kentsel değişimle birliktemekânlarda hangi dönüşümlerin yaşandığını, toplumsal pratiklerin nasıl değiştiğini, toplum vemekân arasındaki ilişkinin nasıl bir boyut kazandığını kitap kafeler aracılığıyla ele almaktadır.Araştırmanın iki temel sorusu mekânsal yeniden üretim ile birlikte insanların etkileşimininnasıl gerçekleştiği ve insanları mekânlarda buluşturan ortak noktanın ne olduğudur.Bu tezin amacı, değişen mekânsal pratiklerin insanlar üzerindeki etkilerini incelemek vemekânların nasıl bir etkileşim aracı olarak kullanıldığını kitap kafeler üzerinden ortayakoymaktır. Araştırma insanların kanaatleri, algıları, duygu ve düşünceleri, tecrübeleri gibiöznel verilere dayandığından nitel bir araştırmadır. 16 kişi ile yarı yapılandırılmışgörüşmelere dayanan bu araştırmanın örneklemini Ankara’daki kitap kafeler oluşturmaktadır.Araştırmanın vardığı sonuçlar şu şekilde özetlenebilir: kitap kafelerin genel kullanım şeklisosyalleşme bağlamında gerçekleşmektedir. Ayrıca, kitap kafeler kültürel birikime, bireyselgelişime ve tüketim biçiminde değişikliğe farklı biçimlerde katkılarda bulunmaktadır.
Public places are spaces where members of a society meet and where the flow ofeveryday life can be easily observed. In Turkey, particularly from the 1960s onward, with thechange in public places, cafe shops have also been transformed and become quite popular. Inthis process, coffee shops known as book cafes have come to the fore as a favorite publicplace of gathering. These coffee shops bring together the cultures of both book reading anddrinking coffee. This study is a sociological investigation of human-public place interactionswith particular attention to book cafes. Through its focus on book cafes, this thesis attempts toshed light on the following questions: as a result of urban transformations, what kind ofchanges has been observed in public places? What shifts have social practices gone through?What kind of dimensions has the relationship between society and public places acquired? Inother words, sociologically speaking, how does social interaction take place as a result ofspatial reproduction? What is the shared point that brings human beings in public places?The aim of this thesis is to analyze the impacts of changing spatial practices on humanbeings. Moreover, with a specific focus on book cafes, this study aims to show the ways inwhich public places are used as a tool of social interaction. Based on subjective data such asopinions, perceptions, emotions as well as experiences of human beings, this research is aqualitative study. Based on the conduct of semi-structured interviews with 16 participants,this study’s sample is drawn from book cafes found in Ankara. This study concludes that thecommon ways of the use of book cafes are in the context of socialization. Likewise, this studyfinds out that book cafes contribute to cultural accumulation, individual development as wellas a change in the mode of consumption.
