Publication: Ahmet Midhat Efendi’nin romanlarında etnik kimlikler
Abstract
XIX. yüzyıl Türk düşünce tarihininin önemli isimlerinden biri olan Ahmet Midhat Efendi 1870-1910 yılları arasında altmışa yakın hikâye ve roman yayımlamış eserlerinde çok dinli ve çok milletli Osmanlı toplumunu çeşitli yönleriyle anlatmıştır. Ahmet Midhat Efendi’nin Romanlarında Etnik Kimlikler adlı çalışmamız da bu minval üzerinedir. Çalışmada öncelikle etnisite ve kimlik kavramı üzerinde durulmuştur. Bu kavramların anlamları tarihsel süreç içerisinde kısa bir değerlendirmeye tabi tutulmuştur. Daha sonra tezin asıl konusu olarak yazarın romanlarında yer alan farklı etnik kökene sahip kahramanlar inceleme konusu olmuştur. Ahmet Midhat Efendi'nin bu kahramanlar aracılığı ile vermeye çalıştığı Osmanlılık kimliği görüşü tezin esasını teşkil etmektedir. Yazar, romanlarında bu görüşlerin yanısıra kahramanlar nezdinde onların ait oldukları toplumların sosyo-kültürel öğelerini de okuyucuya sunmuştur. Romanlarında en çok Osmanlı-İslâm kimliği üzerinde duran ahmet Midhat Efendi'nin eserlerindeki ideal tipler onun ideolojisini yansıtan birer aynadır. O eserlerindeki ideal tipleri; İslâmi ahlâk ve değerler sistemini yücelten ve Türk-Osmanlı-İslâm kimliği özdeşliğini öngören bir model olarak yaratır. Bununla birikte yazar bunun yanında diğer kimlik unsurlarına olumsuz bir bakış açısıyla yaklaşmaz. Buradaki sebep ise Osmanlı kimliğidir. Osmanlı kimliği, devlet içerisinde yer alan bütün bireyleri ırk, dil, din ayırt etmeksizin eşit gören ve birarada tutmayı amaçlayan bir fikir telakkisidir. Ahmet Mithat Efendi is one of the important names of the 19th century history of thought. The writer published around sixty stories and novels between 1870-1910 and he told various aspects of the multi-religious and multi-lingual Ottoman society in these works. Our study named“Ethnical Identities In The Novels Of Ahmet Mithat Efendi” focuses on these elements. In the study, firstly, the concepts of ethnicity and identity are accentuated. Their meanings are evaluated briefly in historical process. Then, as being the actual subject of the thesis, the characters in the author's books that belong to different ethnical origins become the main objects for our study. Ahmet Mithat Efendi's vision about Ottoman identity that he gives through these characters constitutes the essence of this thesis. Besides this vision, the author also presents the socio-cultural elements of the societies that they belonged to. Ahmet Mithat Efendi who puts the emphasis on the Ottoman-Islamic identity in his works uses ideal types in these as a mirror to reflect his ideology. He creates these ideal types as a model who glorifies Islamic morality and value systems and anticipates Turkish-Ottoman-Islamic identicalness. On the other hand, the writer does not approach other identities in a negative way. The reason behind this is the Ottoman identity. Ottoman identity is a thought system that sees all individuals in the state equal no matter what their races, languages and religions are and aims to hold them together.
