Ahmet Midhat Efendi’nin fikrî eserlerinde din meselesi

Abstract

Bu araştırma, Ahmet Midhat Efendi’nin fikrî eserlerinde din meselesinin ele alınışını irdelemek, bu konudaki argümanlarının toplumsal gelişmelere dair ortaya koyduklarını tespit etmek amacıyla hazırlanmıştır. Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nun içinde bulunduğu kritik değişim sürecinde ötekiye, inanca, modernleşmeye, yeni medeniyete dair algısı; Ahmet Midhat gibi toplumsal dikkati yüksek bir yazarın fikrî eserleri aracılığıyla değerlendirilmeye çalışılmıştır. Osmanlı’nın son döneminde, Batı’nın bilişsel üstünlüğünün manevî alanda doğurabileceği etkiler endişe yaratmıştır. Ötekiyi tanımak isteyen Osmanlı aydınları, bu yolda araştırmalarını eklektik bir bakış açısı ile yürütmüşler ve fikirlerini pragmatik bir tavırla halka aktarmaya çalışmışlardır. Yeni fikirlerden haberdar olmaya ve halkı bilinçlendirmeye çabalayan bir vulgarisateur olarak Ahmet Midhat’ın araştırmaları, bilhassa din ve felsefe meseleleri konusunda yüzeysel kalmakla beraber birçok konu ile ilgili temel bilgileri Osmanlı basınına sunan ilk isim odur. Araştırmalarında mümkün olduğunca fazla kaynağa ulaşmayı amaçlamış olan Ahmet Midhat, genel olarak seleflerinin iddialarını sürdürmeye devam etse de bilhassa yeni tartışılmaya başlanan konularda yazılmış çok sayıdaki kaynağın Osmanlı entalijansiyesi tarafından tanınmasına öncülük etmiştir. Gerek ansiklopedist tavrı gerek mülahaza usulüne önem verişi onu son dönem Osmanlı entelektüel hayatının temel karakterlerinden biri haline getirmiştir. Eserlerinde din gibi hem bireysel hem toplumsal değişimlerin temelinde yer alan bir olguyu çok boyutlu olarak tartışmaya açan Ahmet Midhat’ın kişisel yaşamındaki fikrî değişiklikler ve her keşfettiği düşünceyi mukayeseli olarak tartışma eğilimi, Osmanlı’nın son dönem dinî meselelerini farklı açılardan görmeyi sağlamaktadır. This research has been carried out to examine the undertaking of religion issue in Ahmed Midhat Efendi's intelectual works and to determine the deliverance of his arguments on social changes. The perception of the Ottoman Empire of the other, of faith, of modernization and of the new civilization during the critical change process is evaluated through the intellectual works of Ahmed Midhat, a writer that possesses a high level of social awareness. During the last period of the Ottoman Empire, the potential influence that the cognitive superiority of the West can implement on moral field caused concerns. Ottoman intellectuals, who intended to get to know the other, carried out their researches with an eclectic perspective and presented their ideas to the public within a pragmatic approach. Ahmet Midhat was a vulgarisateur who strived to be cognizant of recent ideas and making society conscious of these ideas. His works, especially about religion and philosophy, were facile. However, those provided basic knowledge to the Ottoman Press on many subjects for the very first time. Although Ahmet Mithad who intended to reach multiple resources in his researches, usually sustained his foregoers’ claims, he also pioneered to present many sources about the newly discussed subjects to the Ottoman intellectuals. Both his encyclopedic perspective and his emphasis on consideration made him one of the leading intellectuals in late Ottoman intellectual environment. In his works, Ahmet Midhat started a multi-faceted discussion about religion, a subject that centers both individual and social changes. The change in his ideas in his personal life and his tendency to discuss every recently-learned debate in a comparative manner provide a vision from different perspectives to late Ottoman period religion issues.
