Publication: Üniversite öğrencilerinde venöz metabolik biyobelirteçlerin besin tüketimleri ile ilişkilendirilmesi
Abstract
ABSTRACTAim: The aim of the study was to investigate the relationship between food consumption and metabolic biomarkers and anthropometric characteristics of university students.Methodology: It is a cross-sectional screening study carried out with the participation of 288 healthy and voluntary students studying at Marmara University. As the students were not homogeneous according to the sex, 39 male students' data were excluded from the study. In the study, fasting total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, triglyceride, glucose and insulin levels were measured and anthropometric evaluations were made. A 24-hour dietary recall was taken and a physical activity questionnaire was administered.Findings: In 49.0% of the participants it was observed that energy intake was lower than recommended, 30.9% had cholesterol consumption above recommended level, and 18.9% could not reach n-3 recommended daily. There was a significant relationship between protein consumption and blood glucose, insulin levels (p < 0.05). At the same time, there was a significant relationship between total cholesterol levels and vitamin C, potassium and iron intake (p < 0.05).Conclusion: It should need to improve the food consumption and physical activity levels by making the students aware of changeable cardiovascular risk factors.
