Abstract
STUDY OF HEALTH CARE PROVİDERS AND ATTİTUDES AGAİNST HOMOSEXUAL, BİSEXUAL INDİVİDUALS One of the important reasons of the attitude and prejudice towards homosexuals is due to homophobia. This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted to analyze and identify the negative attitudes of health care providers towards homosexual, bisexual and transgender individuals. The study was conducted on May 2011 through June 2011 between individuals who applied to Lambda and Kaos GL Association and 294 individuals from LGBBT who agreed to participate in the study and 261 individuals from Zonguldak Karaelmas University School of Medicine Application and Research Hospital staff (hospital personnel included doctors, nurses, assistants doctors). The data was assembled through “Homosexuality Attitude Scale”, “Attitude Scale towards Lesbians and Gays” and “Socio-demographic Information towards LGBBT Individuals Form” and “Socio-demographic Information towards Hospital Health Care Providers Form”. As a result of the study it was observed that individuals who did not have a homosexual/ bisexual member in their families and those individuals who did not provide health care/ treatments to homosexual/ bisexual individuals tend to be more homophobic. LGBBT individuals with postgraduate and higher education degrees; married individuals; members of the association; those working in the public sector, are self-employed or business owners who “always” behave differently so that they are not identified that they are homosexuals/ bisexuals; and members of LGBTT who are “always” timid of being homosexual/ bisexual tend to be more homophobic. sexual, Homophobic, Homosexual, Attitude, Health Worker
