Beşyüzüncü Yıldönümünde Ütopya

Abstract

2016 yılı, Rönesans döneminin en önemli Hıristiyan hümanistlerinden biri olan Thomas More'un Ütopya isimli eserinin yayımlanışının 500. yıldönümüdür. Bu eser, gerek üslubu gerek içeriğiyle edebiyat alanında yeni bir türün doğmasını sağlamış ve dünyaya yeni bir kavram kazandırmıştır. Thomas More Ütopyayı yazarken, başta Platonun "Devlet"i olmak üzere muhtelif Antik Yunan ve Roma düşünürlerinin kuramlarından esinlenmiştir. Hıristiyanlık da, More için bir diğer önemli esin kaynağı olmuştur. Buna karşın Ütopya, More'un esinlendiği kaynaklardan herhangi birinin taklidi ya da tekrarından ibaret değildir. Bilakis bünyesinde, esinlenilen kaynaklardan farklı hatta onlarla uyuşmayan unsurlar da barındırır. Ütopya, üslubu ve içeriği, muhtelif akademik disiplinlere mensup akademisyenler arasında tartışılagelen çok katmanlı ve çok yönlü bir eserdir. Makalede, Ütopyanın birinci kitabının içerdiği siyasal ve sosyo-ekonomik eleştiriler ve ikinci kitabında yer alan "İdeal Devlet" düzeninin nitelikleri incelenmektedir

Year 2016, is the anniversary of the publication of "Utopia" by Thomas More, one of the most important Christian humanists of the Renaissance period. This work, not only brought a new notion to the world, but also led the emergence of a new genre in terms of its style and content. Thomas More, while writing Utopia, was inspired by various Ancient Greek and Roman philosophers' theories, notably of Plato's "Republic". Christianity was also the other important source of inspiration. In spite of this, Utopia was not the imitation or repetition of any of its source of inspiration. On the contrary, the book contains different and incompatible elements compared to the other sources of inspiration. Utopia -with its style and content- is a multilayered and sophisticated work, still debated by academicians from different disciplines. This article examines the political and socio-economical criticisms in the first book and qualities of the "Ideal State" order covered in the second book
