Publication: The role of constructıon sector ın economıc growth of Turkey
Abstract
TÜRKİYE’NİN İKTİSADİ BÜYÜMESİNDE İNŞAAT SEKTÖRÜNÜN ROLÜ Bu tez ampirik olarak Türkiye’deki 2005Q1-2014Q4 periyodundaki inşaat sektörü ve ekonomik büyüme arasındaki ilişkiyi inceliyor. Tezde faizlerle ilgili de ampirik bir çalışma mevcut. Çalışmada inşaat yatırımlarından (özel sektör) reel konut kredi faizlerine doğru hem kısa dönemde hem uzun dönemde bir nedensellik ilişkisi olduğu bulunuyor. Ama tersi yönde bir ilişkinin söz konusu olmadığı belirtiliyor. Çalışmanın bir diğer sonucunda da inşaat üretimi ve ekonomik büyüme arasında uzun dönemde çift yönlü bir nedensellik ilişkisi olduğu bulunuyor. Ancak kısa dönemde GSYH’den inşaat üretimine doğru tek yönlü bir nedensellik ilişkisi olduğu belirtiliyor. IRFs sonuçlarına göre inşaat üretiminin uzun dönemde ekonomik büyümeye pozitif bir etki yaptığı vurgulanıyor. Diğer taraftan ekonomik büyümenin inşaat üretimine kısa dönemde pozitif fakat uzun dönemde negatif bir etki yaptığı bulunuyor. Yapılan ampirik çalışmalar sonucunda inşaat sektörünün Türkiye ekonomisi için önemli bir sektör olduğu fakat ekonomik büyümeye katkısı açısından fazla yük bindirilmemesi gerektiği sonucuna ulaşılıyor.
THE ROLE OF CONSTRUCTION SECTOR IN ECONOMIC GROWTH OF TURKEY This thesis empirically investigates the relationship between construction sector and economic growth for Turkey during 2005Q1-2014Q4 period. In the study, there is also an empirical work related with interest rates. It is found that, there is causality relation which runs construction investments (private sector) to real interest rates of residential buildings both in short run and long run but not vice versa. The other result of the study is that, there is bidirectional long run causality between construction production and economic growth. However, in short run there is unidirectional causality running from economic growth (GDP) to construction production. According to IRFs results, construction production affects economic growth positively in long run. On the other side, economic growth affects construction production positively in short run but negatively in long run. Based on empirical results, this study reaches the conclusion that construction sector is significant sector for Turkish economy but the sector should not be overburdened regarding the contribution to economic growth.
