Publication: Öz-kontrol ile akademik erteleme arasındaki ilişkide akıllı telefon bağımlılığının aracı rolünün incelenmesi
Abstract
Araştırmanın örneklem grubunu 2018-2019 eğitim öğretim yılında Marmara Üniversitesi Atatürk Eğitim Fakültesi’nde öğrenim görmekte olan 267’si kadın (%63,9), 151’i erkek (%36,1) 418 üniversite öğrencisi oluşturmaktadır.
In this study, it was aimed to examine the mediating role of smartphone addiction in the relationship between self-control and academic procrastination. Further, examining the relationships between self-control, smartphone addiction and academic procrastination variables and whether these variables differ according to gender and socioeconomic level variables are among the sub-objectives of the research. This research has been designed in the relational screening model. The sample group of the research consisted of 418 university students (267 female and 151 male) who were studying at Marmara University Atatürk Faculty of Education in 2018-2019 academic year. Personal Information Form which was prepared by the researcher, Self-Control and Self Management Scale which was developed by Mezo (2009) and adapted into Turkish by Ercoşkun (2016), Smartphone Addiction Scale which was developed by Kwon et al. (2013) and adapted into Turkish by Demirci, Orhan, Demirdaş, Akpınar ve Sert (2014) and Academic Procrastination Scale which was developed by Cakici (2003) were used to collect of research data. The data of the study has been analyzed using SPSS 21.0 VE AMOS 20.0 programs. Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient has been used to determine the relationship between self-control, smartphone addiction and academic procrastination. Independent Sample t Test was used to determine whether the variables of self-control, smartphone addiction and academic procrastination differ according to gender; One-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used to determine whether the variables of self-control, smartphone addiction and academic procrastination differ according to the socioeconomic level variable. Finally, the mediating role of smartphone addiction in the relationship between self-control and academic procrastination was examined via Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). Finally, the Sobel Test was used to measure the significance and effect amount of the mediating variable.According to the results of the current study, smartphone addiction partially mediated the relationship between self-control and academic procrastination. When model goodness of fit indices are compared with acceptable and good fit indices, it is observed that the Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) that was used is coherent with the data and the tested model is verified. Further, it was found that the self-control, smartphone addiction and academic procrastination levels differ according to gender. However, it was found that the self-control, smartphone addiction and academic procrastination levels do not differ signifıcantly according to perceived socio-economic variable.
