The impact of finance education on the financial literacy levels of high school students : a case study from the European side of İstanbul

Abstract

Bu çalışma, Türkiye’deki finans eğitiminin finansal okuryazarlığa ne düzeyde etki ettiğini tespit etmek için lise öğrencileri düzeyinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmanın kapsamı İstanbul Avrupa Yakasıyla sınırlıdır. Çalışmaya dört farklı ilçeden, dört farklı liseden 240 öğrenci katılmıştır. Ööğrenciler 11. sınıf düzeyindedir. Öğrenciler iki grubun mukayese edilebilmesi açısından, finans eğitimi alan muhasebe ve finansman öğrencileri ve diğer alan öğrencileri olarak sınıflandırılmıştır. Öğrencilere uluslararası geçerliliği olan 2018 PISA Finansal Okuryazarlık Anketi Mayıs ayı 2023 yılında uygulanmıştır.

This study was conducted at the level of high school students to determine to what extent financial education in Turkey affects financial literacy. The scope of the study is limited to the European Side of Istanbul. 240 students from four different districts and four different high schools participated in the study. The students are at the 11th grade level. In order to compare the two groups, the students were classified as accounting and finance students studying finance and other field students. The internationally valid 2018 PISA Financial Literacy Survey was administered to students in May 2023.
