Abstract

In this study, an expert system has been developed to find out the failures in the pneumatic systems. The objective of the expert systems is to assist the tecnicians to make their decision correctly and quickly about the failures that are difficult and longer to find out, especially in the complex pneumatic systems. To aducate a tecnician, who will discover the failures of the pneumtic systems, takes a long time and cost expensive. Therefore an expert system was required to aid in implementing a new approach that assist the tecnicians in use of the pneumatic systems. The developed software assist to find out the general pneumatic systems failures. To find out pneumatic system design failures, FLUIDSIM-P software that is prepared by FESTO A.Ş. has been used in the project. The method of the expert system is to ask questions to the tecnicians who is answering as yes or no and then the system bring up alternative solutions about the required pneumatic system failures. Then, tecnicians may easily and correctly able to determine the general pneumatic system failures. The failure searching systems are divided into three main groups: Actuators, Control Elements (Valves), Air Service Units, The original pictures and sybols of the pneumatic components are located in the expert system to help the tecnicians. The software has been developed by using Visual Basic programming software tool and Mcrosoft Accsess database system to keep the cost at minimum level. The expert system was tested in complex and different systems. As a conclusion the expert system is useful to help the tecnicians to diagnose the general pneumatic failures in short time correctly.
