Türkiye'deki uluslararası öğrencilerin yükseköğrenime devam etme niyetlerine ilişkin belirleyici faktörler

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın amacı, uluslararası öğrencilerin Türkiye’de yükseköğrenime devam etme niyetlerini etkileyen temel faktörleri analiz etmektir. Çalışmada öğrencilerin eğitim tercihlerinde etkili olan unsurların yanı sıra, Türkiye’nin uluslararası öğrenciler için ne derece çekici bulunduğu, öğrencilerin akademik kazanımları ve eğitim süreçlerinden algıladıkları değer gibi unsurlar dikkate alınmıştır. Bu faktörlerin, öğrencilerin Türkiye’deki öğrenimlerini sürdürme konusundaki niyetlerini nasıl etkilediği hem doğrudan hem de dolaylı yollarla incelenmiştir. Araştırmanın verileri, Türkiye’deki çeşitli üniversitelerde öğrenim gören 346 uluslararası öğrenciden anket yoluyla elde edilmiştir. Anket formu, daha önce yapılan çalışmalar temel alınarak oluşturulmuş ve Türkçeye uyarlanmıştır. Katılımcılardan elde edilen veriler doğrultusunda, önce tanımlayıcı istatistikler ve geçerlilik-güvenilirlik analizleri gerçekleştirilmiş, ardından öğrencilerin devam etme niyetini etkileyen ilişkiler çoklu aracılık modeliyle analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonuçları, öğrencilerin devam etme niyetlerinin yalnızca bireysel tercihlere değil, aynı zamanda ülke koşullarına, eğitimden elde ettikleri kazanımlara ve eğitim deneyimine yönelik algılarına da bağlı olduğunu göstermektedir. Bu bulgular, Türkiye’nin uluslararası öğrenci politikalarının daha sürdürülebilir ve bütüncül bir yaklaşımla ele alınması gerektiğine işaret etmektedir.

The aim of this study is to analyze the key factors influencing international students’ intentions to continue their higher education in Türkiye. The research focuses on elements that affect students’ educational choices, such as the attractiveness of the host country, academic achievements, and the perceived value of the educational experience. These factors are examined in relation to how they directly and indirectly influence students’ intentions to persist in their studies in Türkiye. Data were collected through a survey administered to 346 international students studying at various universities across Türkiye. The questionnaire was developed based on existing literature and adapted into Turkish. Descriptive statistics and reliability-validity analyses were conducted initially. Subsequently, a multiple mediation model was applied to assess the relationships between the variables influencing students’ intentions to continue their education. The findings indicate that students’ intentions are not solely shaped by individual preferences but are also significantly affected by broader factors, such as national conditions, academic outcomes, and perceptions of the educational experience. These results suggest that international student retention in Türkiye depends on a holistic understanding of both institutional and experiential dimensions. Overall, the study highlights the importance of adopting comprehensive and sustainable policies in order to strengthen Türkiye’s position as an attractive destination for international students.
