Publication: Son Osmanlı Yemen valisi Mahmut Nedim Bey hayatı ve faaliyetleri (1857-1940)
Abstract
Mahmut Nedim Bey, 1856’da Yemen’in Hudeyde sancağında doğmuştur. 1878’de adliyede bir memur olarak başladığı yaşantısına bir çok görev sığdırarak 1940’da vefat etmiştir. Mahmut Nedim’i tarih araştırmanın konusu yapan ise 1914–1923 görevlendirildiği Yemen valiliği olmuştur. Yemen valiliğine geldikten bir süre sonra Birinci Dünya Savaşı çıktığı için o büyük bir özveriyle Yemen’in savunulmasında hizmet etmiştir. Mondros ateşkes anlaşması ile 1918 yılında başlayan süreçte de Yemen’deki askerin güvenli bir şekilde buradan ayrılmasını sağlamıştır. Osmanlı Devleti’nin sonlanıp Türkiye Cumhuriyeti kurulduğunda da Mustafa Kemal ile Yemen İmam Yahya arasında sıkı ilişkiler kurulmasına çalışmıştır. Türkiye’ye döndükten sonra devlet tarafından Hicaz’da kurulan Suud devletinin lideri İbn-i Suud’un nezdinde Muvakkat Mümessilliğin başkatipliği ile görevlendirilmiştir. Yaşadığı dönem ve memuriyet hayatı II.Abdülhamit ile İttihad ve Terakki Cemiyeti iktidarda olduğu ve Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin kurulduğu dönemlere rastlaması bakımından önemli bir yere sahiptir. Mahmut Nedim Anadolu’da ve özellikle Arap Yarımadası’nda birçok memuriyetlerde bulunmuş ve tecrübe kazanmıştır. Bu tecrübelerinden yola çıkarak da bir hatırat kaleme almıştır.
Mahmut Nedim Bey was born in Hudeyde sanjak of Yemen in 1856. He started his career as a court official in 1878 and filled with many assigments and died in 1940. The reason which makes him the subject of a historical research is his assigment of governing of Yemen between the years 1914 – 1923. When he became the governor of Yemen, the First World War started and with self-sacrifice he served for the defense of Yemen. In the process which started with Mondros Armistice Agreement, he made sure that (the Ottoman) soldiers left Yemen secuerly. When Ottoman state ended and Turkish and Turkish Republic established, he tired to from close relationship between Yemen and The Turkish Republic. After he had return to Turkey, he was assigned as first secretary of Provisional Representatives by the leadership of Ibn-i Suud which was astablished by Turkish state in Hicaz. His life span and service which coincide with eras when II.Abdulhamit and Comittee of Union and Progress were on power and the first years of the establishment of the Turkish Republic has an important place in history. Mahmut Nedim Bey, served for the country many times in Anatolia and especially in Arab Peninsula and gained many experiences. He collected his experiences in his memoirs.
