Publication: Diz osteoartritli hastalarda sanal gerçeklik tabanlı rehabilitasyon programının etkinliği
Abstract
THE EFFECTIVENESS OF VIRTUAL REALITY BASED REHABILITATION IN PATIENTS WITH KNEE OSTEOARTHRITISABSTRACTPurpose: We aimed to investigate the effects of virtual reality based rehabilitation program on patients with knee osteoarthritis. Methods: Sixty patients (47 female, 13 male) with knee osteoarhritis aged 40 to 65 years (57,36 ± 7,26) who were at stage of 2-3 according to the Kellegren Lawrence radiological evaluation were included in the study. The patients were randomly divided into two groups as study group (conventional physiotherapy + virtual rehabilitation) and control group (conventional physiotherapy). Electrotherapy and exercise program were applied to both of the groups along 5 days a week for 6 weeks but virtual rehabilitation only applied to study group via the system MarVAJED. ROM, pain, effusion, kinesiophobia, proprioception, balance, muscle strength and functional status of the patients were evaluated at the beginning and end of treatment. Results: In the intra-group analyzes of all the assessments of the patients there was a significant difference in the positive direction in both groups, except for the balance values. In the intra-group analyzes of balance values there was a significant increase only in the study group. In comparison between the groups; proprioception, balance and functional status scores were significantly increased in the study group according to the control group; kinesophobia and pain decreased significantly.Discussion: It was concluded that the physiotherapy and rehabilitation programs, including the virtual reality, were more successful than the conventional physiotherapy and rehabilitation programs alone.
