Publication: Influence of organizational identity on strategic responses of organizations
Abstract
Bu çalışma, örgüt kimliği yöneliminin örgütlerin stratejik tepkileri üzerindeki etkisini kurumsal çevre ve teknik çevre aktörleri ile olan ilişkilerin göreceli yakınlığını, gücünü, kararlar ve işleyiş üzerindeki etkilerini esas alarak incelemeyi amaçlamıştır. Örgütlerin stratejik tepkilerini etkileyen birçok örgütsel faktör olsa da, yorumlayıcı bir niteliğe sahip olmasından ötürü “örgüt kimliği” bu çalışmada ele alınmıştır. Stratejik tepkileri etkileyen çevresel faktör olarak ise, kurumsal ve teknik çevreyi ampirik olarak birbirinden ayırmanın zorluğundan ötürü “kurumsal ve teknik çevre arasındaki göreceli baskınlık ilişkisi” diğer değişken olarak seçilmiştir. Çalışmanın amacını gerçekleştirmek için Türkiye’deki ulusal günlük gazeteler araştırmanın kapsamına dahil edilmiştir. Kullanılan soru formu, literatür incelemesi, pilot çalışma ve alanda nitel veri toplama süreci sonucunda özgün olarak hazırlanmıştır. Bulgular göstermiştir ki gazetelerin stratejik tepkileri “geçişli” bir yapıya sahiptir. Gazeteler, çevredeki baskı ve talepler ile karşılaştıklarında ikili bir tutum sergilemektedirler. Her stratejik tepki, bir “baskın” bir de “geri çekilen” bileşenden oluşmaktadır. Açıklık ve doğruluk yönelimli örgüt kimliği olan gazeteler ya ılımlı bir tutum sergilemeyi ya da kendi doğruları ve ilkeleri uğruna mücadele etmeyi tercih etmişlerdir. Kazanca önem veren, finansal kaygılar ile kararlar veren, kendilerini ticari işletme olarak değerlendiren ticari yönelimli örgüt kimliği olan gazetelerin ise pasif direnç göstermekten uzaklaştıkları ortaya çıkmıştır. Liderlik yönelimli örgüt kimliği olan gazetelerde stratejik tepki aktif direnç gösterme şeklinde ortaya çıkmış iken, kurumsal çevrenin göreceli olarak baskın olduğu durumda stratejik tepkilerinin pasif direnç gösterme yönünde değiştiği gözlenmiştir. Bu çalışma, örgüt kimliği esas alınarak, örgütlerin stratejik tepkilerini tahmin etmeye yardımcı olup, örgütlerin stratejik tepkilerinin homojenliği ve heterojenliği konusunda da bilgi vermektedir.
This study aimed to examine the influence of organizational identity orientation on strategic responses of the organizations based on the relative proximity of relations, strength of relations, influence of relations on decisions and businesses with actors in the institutional and technical environment. Although there are many organizational factors that influence strategic responses of organizations, especially “organizational identity” was handled because of having interpretive property for organizations. As an environmental factor that influences strategic responses, “the relative dominance between institutional and technical environment” was chosen as another variable because of difficulties to separate institutional and technical pressures empirically. To achieve this purpose, national daily newspapers in Turkey was included to coverage of this study. Questionnaire was prepared as a result of literature review, pilot study and qualitative data collection in the field. Findings represented that strategic responses of newspaper had transitive structure. Newspapers exhibited duality manner when they face pressures and demands from their environment. Each strategic response had two components; a dominant component and a fall back component. Newspapers with openness and truthfulness oriented organizational identity preferred to behave in a moderate manner or struggle on account of their truth and principles. Newspapers with business oriented organizational identity that give importance to revenues; make decisions according to financial concerns; evaluate themselves as commercial enterprise, kept away from representing passive resistance. Strategic response of newspapers with leadership oriented organizational identity appears as active resistance, changed direction of responses to passive resistance under the effect of the relative dominance of institutional environment. This study helps to predict strategic responses of organizations based on their organizational identity while apprising related to homogeneity and heterogeneity of strategic responses of organizations.
