Kent meydanı ile kent kimliği ilişkisi : Üsküdar meydanı örneği

Abstract

Son senelerde yerel yöneticilerin gerek seçim çalışmaları ve gerekse sonraki faaliyetleri esnasında sıkça dile getirdikleri fakat uygulama noktasında pek hevesli ve başarılı olamadıkları konulardan birisi de şehir meydanlarıdır. Önemli bir kentsel kamusal açık alan olan kent meydanları, şehirleri yönetenlerden, kentli bireye, şehrin ziyaretçilerinden kentsel dokunun kendisine kadar herkes ve her şey için bir yer olma özelliği taşımaktadır. İstisnasız bütün yerel idarecilerin ve adayların üzerinde hemfikir oldukları konu, uygun bir formda düzenlenen meydanın kentin kimliğine olumlu katkı yapacağıdır. Hatta siyasetçiler için “uygun form” kullanımı gereksiz bir kavram bile olabilmekte ve onlar sadece meydanlardan bahsetmektedirler. Bu konuda çalışma yapan bilim ve fikir insanları ise, kent meydanlarının önemine değinmekte ve ülkemizde kentin simgelerinden biri olan meydanların olmamasının büyük bir eksiklik olduğuna özellikle vurgu yapmaktadırlar. Her tarihi dönemde ve her toplumda farklı formlarda ortaya çıkan kentsel açık alanların son ve en güzel örneklerinden birisi kent meydanlarıdır. Kentsel kamusal mekânın en rahat ve buna bağlı olarak en çok kullanılan bu alanları son zamanlarda siyasetçilerden daha fazla konuyla ilgilenen bilim adamlarının da ilgisine mazhar olmuş, geçmişte nostaljik yazılarda yer alan meydan olgusu bir çok yüksek lisans ve doktora çalışmasının konusu olmaya başlamıştır. Bu konuda yapılan çalışmaların çoğu kent planlamacıları ve mimarlar tarafından yapılmış olup, söz konusu çalışmalarda kent meydanıyla ile kullanıcıları arasındaki ilişki, bir kentsel form olan meydanın biçimi ve onu biçimlendiren öğeler bağlamında ele alınmıştır. Son zamanlarda bu kadar çok üzerinde durulan ve yerel siyasî kampanyaların baş aktörü olan meydan olgusuna bir de mekânın oluşturduğu sosyoloji, sosyolojinin ve kültürün oluşturduğu mekân ve kimlik perspektifinden bakma düşüncesi bu tezin hareket noktası olmuştur.
