Lisans düzeyinde sosyal bilgiler eğitiminde karşılaşılan sorunlar ve çözüm önerileri: Öğretim elemanlarının görüşleri

Abstract

Bu çalışma, daha etkili bir sosyal bilgiler eğitimi için gerekli koşulların belirlenmesine yardımcı olmak amacıyla sosyal bilgiler eğitimcilerinin alanda gördükleri sorunları ve çözüm önerilerini ortaya koymaktadır. Nitel araştırma deseninin kullanıldığı bu çalışmada, amaçlı bir örneklem seçimi vasıtasıyla katılımcılar belirlenmiş ve katılımcıların görüşlerini elde etmek için veri toplama yöntemi olarak yarı yapılandırılmış bir görüşme protokolü kullanılmıştır. Araştırma verileri, verilerdeki gizli temaları tespit etmede etkili olan endüktif betimsel analiz ve sürekli karşılaştırma yöntemi kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Verilerin analizi sonucunda, sosyal bilgiler eğitimi alanındaki sorunlar (1) eğitim sistemi ve politikası, (2) akademisyenler, (3) öğrenciler ve (4) öğrenme ortamı, eğitim araçları ve kaynaklara erişimle ilgili olmak üzere dört ana kategoride toplanmıştır. Akademisyenlerin alanda yaşanan problemlere ilişkin görüşleri ve bu problemlerin çözümü için ileri sürdükleri önerileri kendi görüşlerinden alıntı yapılarak açıklanmıştır.

This research study explored social studies educators’ viewpoints on the problems and constraints confronting social studies education at tertiary level in Turkey along with their suggestions for the possible solutions of the problems in order to contribute to the effort aimed at enhancing the conditions for the betterment of the social studies teaching and learning. The methods and procedures of qualitative research design were used for carrying out the study. A purposeful sampling procedure was employed to find and recruit the participants for the study. In-depth, semi-structured interviews were used as the main method of data collection. Interview transcripts were analyzed through the strategies of constant comparison and inductive qualitative data analysis which yielded four categories of problems as to the (1) educational administration and policy, (2) social studies educators, (3) students, and (4) learning environment, educational tools and access to resources. Participants’ views of the problems were documented with the extracts from their own words.
