Osmanlı’dan Cumhuriyet’e ilçe ve semt isimlerinin ortaya çıkışında ekonomik ve kültürel özelliklerin rolü: İstanbul örneği

Abstract

stanbul, ilçe ve semt isimleri, kültürel ve iktisadi özellikler, şehir tarihi ÖZET OSMANLI’DAN CUMHURİYET’E İLÇE VE SEMT İSİMLERİNİN ORTAYA ÇIKIŞINDA EKONOMİK VE KÜLTÜREL ÖZELLİKLERİN ROLÜ; İSTANBUL ÖRNEĞİ İstanbul kuruluşundan bu yana hem iktisadi hem de kültürel olarak büyük dönüşüm geçirmiştir. Özellikle Türkleşmesinden itibaren edindiği iktisadi ve kültürel birikim çalışmamızın kapsamına girmiştir. Bu birikim ve zamanla geçirdiği dönüşümü iyi tespit edebilmenin yollarından biri de ilçe, semt ve mahalle isimlerine bakmaktır. Şehrin tarihi incelendiğinde bazı semtlerin belli dönemlerde iktisadi kimlikleriyle öne çıktığını bazılarına ise sonradan ekonomik anlamlar yüklendiği görülmektedir. Bunlara sadece iskana mahsus olanları da eklemek mümkündür. Bahsedilen öne çıkışlar ya da sonradan oluşlar ilçe ve semtlerin isimlerinde belirleyici rol oynamıştır. Bu çalışma ile esnaf gruplarının, vakıf sahiplerinin ya da tarihin bir yerinde şehrin kaderine ortak olmuş önemli kişilerin isimlerinin yer adı olarak benimsendiği anlatılmaya çalışılmıştır. Şahıs isimlerinin ağırlıkta olduğu görüldüyse de hemen her ilçe ve semtin iktisatla yolları bir yerde kesişmiş ve de kesişmeye devam edecektir. Dünyanın ve tüketim alışkanlıklarının gidişatına bağlı olarak da mesken-ticarethane ayrımının giderek zayıflayacağı düşünülmektedir.

Key words : Istanbul, District and neighbourhood names, cultural and economic features, city history ABSTRACT THE ROLE OF ECONOMIC AND CULTURAL FEATURES ON THE FORMATION OF DISTRICT AND NEIGHBOURHOOD NAMES FROM OTTOMAN TO REPUBLICAN ERA / THE CASE OF ISTANBUL Since its foundation, Istanbul had undergone great economic and cultural transformations. This study focuses especially on its economic and cultural heritage that was built after its Turcification. One of the ways to follow the transformation that it has gone through is to examine the names of districts and neighbourhoods. By this examination it appears that some districts are economically important at certain periods while some others gain economic significance later. On the other hand, some districts and neighbourhoods were reserved only for settlement. All these aspects played significant role in the formation of their names. This study aims to show that the names of artisan groups, waqf owners and all the other figures that played a role in the city’s development were given to districts and neighbourghoods. Although the majority of place names appear to be after the names of specific persons, it should be note that almost all districts and neighbourhoods had at a certain period in its history became an economic center and this will be the case in the future. Furthermore, relying on the changes in consuming habits and the course of events all over the worls, it can be estimated that the housing-business division will diminish.
