Abstract
İlk Türk kadın yazarlarından ve kadın hareketinin öncü isimlerinden biri olarak anılan Emine Semiye Hanım, 1864–1944 yılları arasında yaşamıştır. Edebiyatçılığı, imparatorluk coğrafyasının farklı bölgelerinde sürdürdüğü eğitimcilik hayatı, başta kadın ve çocuk meseleleri olmak üzere çeşitli konulardaki makaleleri, siyasî ve sosyal faaliyetleri, seyahatleri ve dönem hakkında birçok ipucu veren mektuplarıyla Emine Semiye Hanım; özellikle II. Meşrutiyet’in öncesi ve sonrasında Cumhuriyet’in ilanına kadar olan dönemde, matbuat âleminde varlık göstermiş, Türk edebiyat tarihi açısından önemli bir isimdir. Yazar hakkında bilinenlerin az olduğu göz önünde bulundurularak bir monografi şeklinde hazırlanması düşünülen bu çalışmada öncelikle Emine Semiye’nin biyografisi ve bibliyografyası belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Yazarın eserleri, hâkim söylemin ne olduğu anlaşılmaya çalışılarak incelenmiştir. Emine Semiye’nin fikir dünyasını anlamak amacıyla, daimî yazar kadrosunda yer aldığı Hanımlara Mahsus Gazete ve Mütalaa’daki yazılarına başvurulmuştur. Edebî kamudaki yerinin belirlenmesinde etkili olan politik duruşuyla aile geleneğinden ayrı bir yerde bulunan yazarın siyasî faaliyetleri de ele alınmıştır.
ONE OF FIRST TURKISH WOMEN WRITERS, EMINE SEMIYE HANIM, HER LIFE AND WORKS Emine Semiye Hanım, one of the first Turkish female writers and pioneer of the women’s movement, lived between the years 1864 and 1944. Through her literature, teaching career in different regions of the empire, articles on women and children issues, political and social activities, travels and the letters she wrote, provide us with crucial information about the period. Emine Semiye Hanum is a noteworthy name in the history of Turkish Literature, who had been expressive in print culture throughout the period of the late Ottoman and the announcement of Turkish Republic. Although there is not much information available about the writer, in this monographic study, Emine Semiye’s biography is compiled from her bibliography. This study also includes the analysis of her works to bring out the atmosphere of the period. In order to comprehend Emine Semiye’s thoughts and outlook on life, I have consulted her articles written for Mütalaa (Observation) and Hanımlara Mahsus Gazete (The Newspaper for Women), where she was a permanent columnist. This study also tried to evaluate the political activities of the writer, as someone who had been an opponent to her own family’s conventions due to her distinctive political attitude which resulted in her noted position in the literary world.
