Publication: Ortaokul matematik ders kitaplarının kök değerler açısından incelenmesi
Abstract
Değerler, hayatımızı ve kararlarımızı şekillendiren fikirlerin kaynağıdır. Her birey, kendi değerlerine sahiptir. Bireylerden oluşan toplumların da kendilerine özgü değerleri bulunmaktadır ve toplumlar bu değerlerini gelecek nesillere aktararak devamlılığını sağlama gayesindedir. Değerlerin gelecek nesillere aktarılması, değerler eğitimi ile gerçekleştirilmektedir. Değerler eğitimi, bireylerin değerleri kazanması için gerçekleştirilen eğitimdir. Bu çerçevede öğretim programları, değerler eğitimi hedefini içermeye başlamıştır. Öğretim programlarında değerler eğitiminden, “Değerlerimiz” başlığı altında bahsedilmektedir. Matematik öğretim programında da değerler eğitimi hedefinden ve programda yer alan kök değerlerden bahsedilmektedir. Matematik öğretim programında yer alan kök değerler şunlardır: Adalet, dostluk, dürüstlük, öz denetim, sabır, saygı, sevgi, sorumluluk, vatanseverlik, yardımseverlik.Ders kitapları, öğretim programını uygulama açısından önemli somut materyallerdir. Bu materyaller, öğretim programına ve programın hedeflerine uygun olacak şekilde hazırlanmak zorundadır. Bu çerçevede araştırmada, “Matematik dersi öğretim programında yer alan kök değerler, ortaokul matematik ders kitaplarında ne kadar, hangi ünitede ve nasıl yer almaktadır?” sorusu araştırılmıştır. Araştırma sorusunu daha detaylı irdeleyebilmek için alt problemler oluşturulmuştur. Oluşturulan alt problemler ise şunlardır: 1.Ortaokul matematik ders kitaplarında kök değerler ne kadar yer almıştır?2.Ortaokul matematik ders kitaplarında kök değerlere nasıl yer verilmiştir?3.Ortaokul matematik ders kitaplarındaki ünitelerde kök değerlerin dağılımı nasıldır?Araştırma, nitel bir araştırmadır ve nitel araştırma desenlerinden olan durum çalışması yöntemi ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Ortaokul matematik ders kitaplarında yer alan kök değerler, araştırmanın durumudur. Bu durumu derinlemesine incelemek için faydalanılan kaynaklar ise ders kitaplarıdır. Araştırmada, Tuna Yayınları’na ait 5. sınıf, Öğün Yayınları’na ait 6. sınıf, Ekoyay Yayınları’na ait 7. sınıf ve Kök-e Yayıncılık’a ait 8. sınıf matematik ders kitapları, kök değerleri içermesi bakımından incelenmiştir. Bu bağlamda bahsedilen ders kitapları, araştırmanın çalışma grubunu oluşturmaktadır. Çalışma grubundan toplanan veriler, doküman analizi yöntemi ile iki farklı araştırmacı tarafından toplanmıştır. Toplanan veriler, EK-1’de yer alan “Değer Analiz Tablosu” ışığında organize edilmiştir. Veriler, iki araştırmacı tarafından toplandığı için Miles ve Huberman (2019) tarafından oluşturulan güvenirlik formülüne göre güvenirlik hesaplanmıştır. İki araştırmacı arasındaki güvenirlik katsayısı %98 olarak tespit edilmiştir. Araştırmada verilerin analizi için ise içerik analizi ve betimsel analiz yöntemleri kullanılmıştır. Araştırma süreci sonunda elde edilen bulgular doğrultusunda Millî Eğitim Bakanlığı’na ve bu konuda araştırma yapacak olan araştırmacılara önerilerde bulunulmuştur. Araştırma sonucunda ulaşılan bulgular ise aşağıda listelenmiştir:1.5T ders kitabının %12,01’lik kısmında değerler yer almaktadır. Değer içeren kısımda adalet (13), dostluk (1), dürüstlük (1), öz denetim (19), sabır (3), saygı (37), sevgi (63), sorumluluk (36), vatanseverlik (11) ve yardımseverlik (5) olmak üzere 189 defa değerlere rastlanmıştır. 5T ders kitabının en çok değer içeren ünitesi olan 1. Ünite: Sayılar ve İşlemler ünitesi 87 değer; en az değer içeren üniteleri olan 4. Ünite: Geometri ve Ölçme ve 6. Ünite: Geometri ve Ölçme ünitelerinin her birisi ise 3 değer içermektedir.2.6Ö ders kitabının %18,59’luk kısmında değerler yer almaktadır. Değer içeren kısımda adalet (9), dostluk (4), dürüstlük (1), öz denetim (16), sabır (1), saygı (116), sevgi (95), sorumluluk (34), vatanseverlik (9) ve yardımseverlik (12) olmak üzere 297 defa değerlere rastlanmıştır. 6Ö ders kitabının en çok değer içeren ünitesi olan 2. Ünite (Tam Sayılar; Kesirlerle İşlemler) ünitesi 67 değer; en az değer içeren ünitesi olan 5. Ünite (Açılar; Alan Ölçme) ünitesi ise 26 değer içermektedir.3.7E ders kitabının %8,96’lık kısmında değerler yer almaktadır. Değer içeren kısımda adalet (4), dostluk (0), dürüstlük (1), öz denetim (6), sabır (1), saygı (7), sevgi (39), sorumluluk (17), vatanseverlik (2) ve yardımseverlik (2) olmak üzere 79 defa değerlere rastlanmıştır. 7E ders kitabının en çok değer içeren ünitesi olan 4. Ünite (Oran ve Orantı; Yüzdeler) ünitesi 26 değer; en az değer içeren ünitesi olan 5. Ünite (Doğrular ve Açılar; Çokgenler; Çember ve Daire) ünitesi ise 6 değer içermektedir.4.8K ders kitabının %6,46’lık kısmında değerler yer almaktadır. Değer içeren kısımda adalet (2), dostluk (1), dürüstlük (1), öz denetim (6), sabır (1), saygı (3), sevgi (45), sorumluluk (7), vatanseverlik (3) ve yardımseverlik (5) olmak üzere 74 defa değerlere rastlanmıştır. 8K ders kitabının en çok değer içeren üniteleri olan olan 2. Ünite – Kareköklü İfadeler ve Veri İşleme ve 4. Ünite – Denklem ve Eşitsizlik üniteleri 19 değer; en az değer içeren ünitesi olan 5. Ünite – Geometri ünitesi ise 6 değer içermektedir.
Values are the source of ideas that shape our lives and decisions. Every individual has their own values. Societies also have their own values, and they aim to ensure their continuity by transferring these values to future generations. Transferring values to future generations happens with values education. Values education is the education carried out for individuals to gain values. In this framework, curriculums started to include values education. Values education goal is mentioned under the headline “Our Values” in curriculums. Values education goal and core values are also mentioned in the mathematics curriculum. The core values in the mathematics curriculum are as follows: Justice, friendship, honesty, self-control, patience, respect, love, responsibility, patriotism, helpfulness.Textbooks are important concrete materials for implementation of the curriculum. These materials must be prepared in accordance with the curriculum and the goals of curriculum. In this framework “How much, in which unit and how are the core values in the mathematics curriculum included in the secondary school mathematics textbooks?” research question was investigated. In order to examine the research question more detailed, sub-questions were created. These are the sub-questions:1.How much space is there for core values in secondary school mathematics textbooks?2.How are core values included in secondary school mathematics textbooks?3.How is the distribution of core values in the units in the secondary school mathematics textbooks?This research is a qualitative research and was carried out with the case study method. Core values in secondary school mathematics textbooks are the case of this study. The resources used to examine this case in depth are textbooks. In this research, 5. grade mathematics textbooks by Tuna Publications, 6. grade mathematics textbook by Öğün Publications, 7. grade mathematics textbook by Ekoyay Publications and 8. grade mathematics textbooks by Kök-e Publishing were examined in terms of containing core values. In this context, mentioned textbooks are the study group of this research. The data collected from the study group were collected by two different researchers using the document analysis method. The collected data were organized with the “Value Analysis Table” in Appendix-1. Since the data were collected by two researchers, reliability was calculated with the Miles and Huberman’s (2019) reliability formula. The reliability coefficient between the two researchers was determined as 98%. For data analysis, content analysis and descriptive analysis were used in the research.With the findings obtained at the end of the research process, suggestions were made to the Ministry of National Education and to the researchers who will do research on this area. Values were found 297 times includes justice (9), friendship (4), honesty (1), self-control (16), patience (1), respect (116), love (95), responsibility (34), patriotism (9) and helpfulness (12). Unit 2 (Integers; Operations with Fractions) is the unit which contains most of the values in the 6Ö textbook, contains 67 values; Unit 5 (Angles; Area Measurement) is the unit which contains least of the values in the 6Ö textbook, contains 26 values.3.Values are included in 8,96% of the 7E textbook. Values were found 79 times includes justice (4), friendship (0), honesty (1), self-control (6), patience (1), respect (7), love (39), responsibility (17), patriotism (2) and helpfulness (2). Unit 4 (Ratio and Proportion; Percentages) is the unit which contains most of the values in the 7E textbook, contains 26 values; Unit 5 (Lines and Angles; Polygons; Circle and Circle Region) is the unit which contains least of the values in the 7E textbook, contains 6 values.4.Values are included in 6,46% of the 8K textbook. Values were found 74 times includes justice (2), friendship (1), honesty (1), self-control (6), patience (1), respect (3), love (45), responsibility (7), patriotism (3) and helpfulness (5). Unit 2 – Square Root Expressions and Data Processing and Unit 4 – Equation and Disequilibrium are the units which contain most of the values in the 8K textbook, each contains 19 values; Unit 5 – Geometry and Measurement is the unit which contains least of the values in the 8K textbook, contains 6 values.
