Selçuklularda Gulâm sistemi

Abstract

Abbasi, Sâmânî ve Gaznelilerde yaygın olarak kullanılan, erken yaşlarda köle yapılan çocukların eğitilerek askerî ve idarî alanlarda kullanılması esasına dayanan gulâm sistemi, Selçuklular tarafından da benimsenmiş ve etkin olarak kullanılmıştır. Bu çalışmada gulâm sisteminin niteliği, Selçuklu dönemi komşu ülkelerdeki gulâm sisteminin uygulanışı, Selçukluların bu sistemi benimseme nedenleri, Türkmenlerle gulâmlar arasındaki ilişkinin mahiyeti ve gulâmların Selçuklu idaresi üzerindeki olumlu ve olumsuz etkileri incelenmeye çalışılmıştır. Bu çalışma, gulâmların etkinliklerini arttırdığı oranda Selçuklu siyasal sistemindeki sivil idarecilerin etkinliklerinin azaldığını, Türkmenlerle gulâmlar arasındaki ilişkinin her zaman doğrusal olmayıp dönem ve coğrafyaya göre çeşitlilik arz ettiği tezini işlemektedir.

Ghulam system, which was commonly used in Abbasid Caliphate, Samanids, Ghaznavids, based on the concept of raising slave children to be accommodated in the government and military was also endorsed in the Seljuk Empire. In this study, the quality of the ghulam system, the nature of the similar systems used in the neighbor states of the Seljuk Empire, the nature of the relationship between Turkomans and ghulams, and the positive and negative effects of the ghulam system on Seljuk Governance were investigated. The purposes of this study are to apprehend the notion that as the power of ghulams increased the strength of the civil governors decreased and that the relationship between ghulams and Turkomans was indirect and dependent on the geographic factors.
