2.SUMMARYEvaluation of the Effect of Early Skin to Skin Contact on Breastfeeding and Postpartum Hemorrhage in Women with Cesarean BirthStudent’s Name: Zülfiye Serap SÜRÜCÜ Thesis yesi Zübeyde EKŞI GÜLOĞLUDepartment: Marmara University Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology NursingAim: In order to evaluate the effect of early skin-to-skin contact on breastfeeding and postpartum hemorrhage; randomized controlled and experimental study.Materials and Methods: The study was conducted with 88 women who had delivered by cesarean section in a training and research hospital in Istanbul, who met the sampling criteria and agreed to participate in the study (Experiment: 47, Control: 41). Questionnaire, Breastfeeding Observation Form, Breastfeeding Assessment Scale (IBFAT), Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) were used in the data collection stage. Results: There was no statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of the descriptive and obstetric characteristics of the women and the descriptive characteristics of the babies (p>0.05). Mean early skin-to-skin contact duration in the experimental group was 67.34±13.20 min. as found. The mean duration of first breastfeeding was 7.82±2.49 min in the experimental group and 5.60±1.90 min in the control group, and a statistically significant difference was found between the groups (t =-4.765 p<0.001). The mean IBFAT score in the first breastfeeding of the women in the experimental group was 8.68±1.56, and the control group was 5.29±1.50, and a statistically significant difference was found between the groups (t=-6.854 p <0.001). The mean VAS pain score was 4.76±1.16 in the experimental group and 5.60±1.18 in the control group, and a statistically significant difference was found between the groups (t= -3.192 p=0.001). Conclusion: It was determined that early skin-to-skin contact increases the success of breastfeeding, decreases the amount of postpartum hemorrhage and pain levels of women in cesarean section.Key Words: Early skin to skin contact, Cesarean section, Breastfeeding, Postpartum hemorrhage.
