Publication: Kutsal mekân arketipleri ve temel tasarım ilkeleri kapsamında çağdaş kutsal mekânların göstergebilimsel analizi
Abstract
The thesis, has been researching the relationship between archetypal elements present in sacred spaces and fundamental design principles. The research is divided into seven chapters. The first chapter encompasses the introduction, while the second chapter has been delved into the historical progression of semiotics and its prominent representatives. In the third chapter, the relationships between metaphor, myth, and archetype in spatial contexts has been examined. The fourth chapter focuses on the concepts and theories of archetypes in sacred spaces, and in the fifth chapter, a literature review has been conducted on the methodology of spatial semiotics and the signs of space. The sixth chapter had been analyzed relevant archetypal traces in the selected sacred spaces and provides a semiotic analysis of their expressions. The following three sacred places are selected for examination: • Church of Saint Restituta • Punchbowl Mosque • Bahá’í Temple Within this thesis sample, the expressions of mythic and archetypal elements in the spatial design of the selected sacred places are evaluated. The interior and exterior appearances of the chosen structures are comprehensively addressed, drawing conclusions from the overall narrative of the spaces. Throughout these deductions, emphasis is placed on the two key semiotic concepts: the signifier and the signified. The seventh chapter is comprised the conclusion and overall evaluation.
