Abstract
İptidailerde Kullanılan Coğrafya Kitaplarının İncelenmesine Bir Örnek: Küçüklere Coğrafya Hikayeleri Uzun yıllar boyunca devam eden disiplinlerin varlığı düşünüldüğünde sosyal bilgilerin ülkemizde çok daha yeni bir alan olduğu hatırlanacaktır. Fakat ülkemizde tarih ve coğrafya eğitimi cumhuriyet öncesi dönemde iptidaiden darülfünun seviyesine kadar çoktan başlamış bulunmaktaydı. Özellikle ilk batılılaşma çalışmalarıyla da çeviri eserler Osmanlı döneminde okutulmuştu. Zaman içinde 2. Meşrutiyet dönemine gelindiğinde, cumhuriyetimizin de temellerinin uzandığı bu yıllarda, ülkemizin batı standartlarında ilk kitapları yazılmaya başlanmıştı. Zira meşrutiyetin ilan edilmesi ile birlikte gelen özgürlükçü havanın okullara yansıması da gecikmemişti. Buhranlı geçen uzun savaşlara rağmen yeni okullar açılabiliyor ve buralarda öğretmen olacaklara modern eğitimleri nasıl gerçekleştireceklerinin teknikleri öğretilmeye çalışılıyordu. Bu bağlamda o dönemde ve cumhuriyetin ilk yıllarında ismi çokça zikredilmiş Saffet Geylangil bir coğrafya öğretmeni olarak çalışmalar yürütüyor ve iptidai çocuklarına zahmetsiz şekilde coğrafyayı öğretmek için modern teknikler deniyordu. Bu gayelerle kaleme aldığı Küçüklere Coğrafya Hikayeleri kitabı hem 1916 yılında hem de 1923 yılında basılmıştı. Günümüzde de yapılandırmacı dediğimiz yaklaşıma son derece yakın olan bu kitap üzerinde durulması gereken ve belki bundan sonraki alan çalışmalarına da ışık tutacak özellikte gözükmektedir.
