Abstract
EVALUATION OF THE PHILOSOPHY OF IBN ARABI IN MODERN TURKISH THOUGHT The relationship between philosophy of Ibn Arabi and other thought of schools has once again been evaluated. Ibn Arabi and wahdat al-wujud Philosophy have been highlighted in order to equally respond modern western philosophy that has been increasingly influencing Islamic world or eliminate the pernicious effects of philosophies considered as unfavorable in view of religion. It has been acknowledged that it was noticed at this time, for the first time, that Ibn Arabi and wahdat al-wujud thinking had much deeper means than other Islamic schools. Ibn Arabi and his philosophy have been considered one of the examples of profound way of thinking stretching from existence to science, theology to psychology, science to technique, astrology to chemistry. It has been favored as a way of thinking to challenge western thinking. Ibn Arabi and wahdat al-wujud philosophy have even been regarded as a system whose ideas have been quoted by western philosophies. From this view, wahdat al-wujud has been prioritized as a high philosophy having the capability to represent Islamic thought, science, literature and ethic; moreover a different Ibn Arabi perception arose due to defensive and activist behavior of that time’s modernist authors and their weaknesses occurred in this context. The most evident argument at his time concerning Ibn Arabi was “what his philosophy is”. At that time where there was a great uncertainty regarding philosophic terms, Ibn Arabi philosophy has been understood as pantheism, idealism, mysticism, spiritualism, sufism, monism and phenomenism, and arguments have been brought forward.
