Cumhuriyet döneminde sporun kültürel kimlik inşasındaki rolü: muhit dergisi (1928-1933)

Abstract

Türk toplumunda Cumhuriyet’in ilanından sonra batılılaşma ve muasır medeniyetler seviyesine çıkma yolunda birtakım adımlar atılmıştır. Bu kapsamda Muhit Dergisi (Kasım 1928- Mayıs 1933) Türk milletinin yeni fikirlere, yaşam tarzına uyum sağlaması noktasında öncülük etmiş ve örnek Cumhuriyet insanını yetiştirmede; yazı dilinden yaşanılan hayata kadar inkılapların uygulanmasında önemli işlevlere sahip bir dergi olmuştur. Çalışmanın kapsamı, Ahmet Cevat Emre tarafından beş yıl içinde ellibeş sayı çıkarılan Muhit Dergisi’ndeki spor içerikli yazılar ve görsellerdir. “Resimli Aylık Aile Mecmuası” alt başlığıyla çıkartılan dergi özellikle aile kavramına odaklanmış ve toplumun en küçük biriminden başlayarak ahlâkî değerleri olan, sağlıklı ve fikren de güçlü yurttaşlar yetiştirmeyi amaçlamıştır. Çalışmanın amacı Muhit Dergisi’nin, Cumhuriyet Döneminde pragmatik amaçlarla oluşturulmaya çalışılan kültürel kimliği, spor örneklemi üzerinden ele alarak açıklamaya çalışmaktır. Çalışmada Cumhuriyet’in ilk yıllarında yayınlanmış ve yeni kurulan Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Devleti’nin önemli bir yayın organı olan Muhit Dergisi, içerik analizi metodu ile incelenmiş ve kültürel kimlik kavramı çerçevesinde değerlendirilmiştir. Böylelikle spora yüklenen kültürel anlamın da uluslaşma sürecindeki önemi ile devlet politikası olarak geliştirildiği belirtilmiştir. Sonuç olarak sporun fizyolojik yararlarının yanında kültürel işlevleri de vurgulanmış; Cumhuriyet Dönemi’nin ilk yıllarında kurucu yapının, toplumun ihtiyaçlarını göz önünde bulundurarak dergicilik faaliyetleri çerçevesinde millî kimlik inşasına ağırlık verdiği ve bu kapsamda yeni insan modelini deneyimlediği değerlendirilmiştir. In this context, Muhit magazine (November 1928-May 1933) pioneered the Turkish nation in adapting to new ideas and lifestyles and raised exemplary Republican people; It has become a magazine that has important functions in the implementation of reforms, from written language to life. The scope of the study is sports-related articles and visuals in Muhit Magazine, which was published fifty-five issues in five years by Ahmet Cevat Emre. The magazine, which was published with the subtitle of "Illustrated Monthly Family Magazine", focused especially on the concept of family and aimed to raise healthy and intellectually strong citizens with moral values, starting from the smallest unit of society. The aim of the study is to try to explain the cultural identity of Muhit Magazine which was tried to be created for pragmatic purposes during the Republic period, by considering sports examples. In the study, Muhit Magazine, which was published in the first years of the Republic and is an important publication of the newly established Republic of Turkey, was examined with the content analysis method and evaluated within the framework of the concept of cultural identity. Thus, it was stated that the cultural meaning attributed to sports was developed as a state policy with its importance in the nationalization process. As a result, in addition to the physiological benefits of sports, its cultural functions were also emphasized; It has been evaluated that in the early periods of the Republican Era, the founding structure focused on the construction of national identity within the framework of magazine publishing activities, taking into account the needs of the society and experienced the new human model in this context.
