Publication: Nikaia (Bithynia) meslekleri (M.ö. 336 - M.s. 284)
Abstract
Bu çalışma, M.ö. 336 - M.s. 284 yılları arasında, tarihi Nikaia (= İznik) kenti ve etki alanında yaşayan ve farklı bölgelerde tespit edilen Nikaialıların mesleklerini bir araya getirmektedir. İki ana bölümden oluşan tezin Birinci Bölümü’nde tespit edilen meslek gruplarının kritiği; İkinci Bölüm’ünde ise tematik gruplar hâlinde sınıflandırılan meslek verilerinin yazıt tanıtımları yer almaktadır. Tezimiz, meslek birlikleri ve mesleki faaliyetlere dair detaylı bilgilerin yazıtlarda sınırlı olması nedeniyle sözlük ve antik kaynaklardan gelen veri setlerinden (antik edebi metinler, sikkeler, yazıtlar), destek alarak bu mesleklerin işlevsel analizini yapmış, bu şekilde elde edilen verilerle birlikte yer yer ele aldığı mesleğe ilişkin yeni sorular ve öneriler ortaya atmıştır.
This study compiles the professions of individuals from Nikaia (= İznik), identified in various regions, who lived within the city and its sphere of influence between 336 BCE and 284 CE. The thesis consists of two main sections: the first provides a critical assessment of the identified professional groups, while the second presents inscriptions categorized thematically according to occupational data. Due to the limited information on professional associations and occupational activities in the inscriptions, the study incorporates data from lexicons and ancient sources (including literary texts, coins, and inscriptions) to conduct a functional analysis of these professions. In doing so, the thesis not only evaluates the available evidence but also raises new questions and proposes interpretations regarding specific professions.
