HAYAT BİLGİSİ DERSİNDE 'SOSYAL EMPATİ' ETKİNLİKLERİNİ UYGULAMAK: 'ÖTEKİNİ DUYUMSAYARAK

Abstract

2005 yılı sonrasındaki öğretim programlarında empati, ilk kez öğrencilerde geliştirilmesi öngörülen bir beceri olarak tanımlanmıştır. Bu çerçevede örnek olay ve çoklu zekâ etkinlikleri gibi öğretim yöntemleri ön plana çıkmıştır. Araştırmanın amacı, Hayat Bilgisi dersindeki kazanımlar çerçevesinde, yeni bir yaklaşım olarak sosyal empati öğretim yönteminin sınıfiçi uygulamalarının etkililiğini saptamaktır. Nitel yöntem merkezli araştırmanın deseni eylem araştırmasıdır. Araştırma, 40 öğrenciyle özel, 28 öğrenciyle de devlet okulunda gerçekleştirilmiştir (37 kız, 31 erkek toplam 68 öğrenci). Hayat Bilgisi dersi öğretim programından seçilen 6 kazanım, sosyal empati yaklaşımına göre düzenlenerek on iki saat süreyle öğretim gerçekleştirilmiştir. Buna göre her kazanım için saptanan altı empati rolü öğrencilere sunulmuş ve öğrenciler birini seçerek kendilerini bu roldeki karakterin yerine koymuşlardır. Bunun ardından öğretim planlanan basamaklara göre sürdürülmüştür. Veri toplama araçları olarak ön-son test, sosyal empati çalışma yaprakları ile araştırmacı günlükleri kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler belirli tema ve kategorilere göre sınıflandırılarak sayısallaştırılmış ve sonuçlar tablolar halinde sunulmuştur. Araştırma sonuçları; sosyal empati etkinliklerinin kendi özgün koşulları altında hem devlet hem de özel okullarda öğrenciler tarafından büyük oranda başarıldığını; öğrencilerin empati algısının araştırma sonrası oldukça değiştiğini ortaya koymaktadır.

In the teaching programme launched in 2005, empathy has been firstly defined as a skill need to be developed in pupils. In this respect, teaching methods such as case studies and multiple intelligence activities came to the fore. The aim of the present research is to investigate the effectiveness of social empathy activities as a new approach in the life studies courses. The study is designed as action research among the qualitative research methods. Both state school (n=28) and private school students (n=40) formed the study group where 37 students were female and the rest 31 were male. In planning the teaching intervention, six attainment targets were chosen from the life studies teaching programme. Teaching activities were planned so as to maintain these attainment targets via the social empathy principles. Having designed the social empathy teaching activities and their related worksheets, a 12 hour teaching intervention was conducted in 3rd graders. Students were presented six different empathy roles for each attainment target and then they were asked to choose one of the roles presented. Following this, students were required to make empathy with the role chosen. Data were gathered via pre and post-tests, social empathy worksheets and researcher field notes. Content analysis were used in the study. The results of analysis indicated that the social empathy activities are feasible in both state and private school settings. The majority of the students could get into the empathy roles and were successful in conducting the related activities. The findings also revealed that students' perception of the concept of empathy has been developed in a large extent.
