Publication: Travma yaşantısı olan üniversite öğrencilerinin başetme becerilerini geliştirmede psikodramanın etkisi
Abstract
THE IMPACT OF PSYCHODRAMA ON DEVELOPING COPING CAPABILITIES OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS WHO EXPERIENCE TRAUMA This study aims to examine the impact of psychodrama on post-trauma experience coping capabilities. The research is a paired pre-test, post-test experiment and control group pattern. The research contains an experiment group and control group. The number and the chronicity of traumatic experiences of university students who have not been diagnosed clinically, the intensity of their impacts in their current life and lack of prior professional support were taken as the criteria for pairing. The research was conducted with the undergraduate students studying in Marmara University, Guidance and Psychological Counseling Undergraduate Program in 2009-2010 Academic Year. A demographic information form, a contact form for volunteer participation in the study, the Impact of Event Scale-Revised, the COPE scale was applied to 215 students. 51 students, who voluntarily wanted to participate in the study, were contacted and 42 students among them were interviewed. During the interviews, the students completed the traumatic experience information form and the experiment and control groups were created based on the information on these forms. The experiment group consisted of 2 males and 8 females while the control group consisted of 3 males and 7 females. The experiment group was applied the Symptom Check List-90-Revised Scale before and after the study. The study was realized for 14 weeks, 80 hours. The data of the study were tested by Mann Whitney-U Test and Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test. At the tests, the significance level was required as p<.05 and p<.01. The difference between the experiment group and the control group was not significantly different for all sub-dimensions of the Impact of Event Scale and the COPE scale. As a result of the evaluation, no significant difference was found in all sub-tests of the Symptom Check List-90-Revised Scale. At the evaluation of the Impact of Event Scale, the Excessive Stimulation was found significant in the control group in favor of the post-test as a result of its sub-test. At the evaluation of COPE scale, the Mental Disengagement sub-test was found significant in experiment and control groups. The findings were discussed within the framework of the relevant literature and the limitations and suggestions were indicated. Trauma, Coping Capabilities, Psychodrama, University students.
