Abstract

Russian health care, as it exists today, evolved of philosophical and political trends, socioeconomic systems, and several major wars. Several levels of emergency medical ambulances (typical EMS ambulances, specialist ambulances) respond to the emergency call 03. They are staffed with one physician, one (or two) feldsher trained in emergency care (equivalent to a nurse practitioner), and a driver. Residency training in emergency medicine does not exist in Russia. Most emergency physicians have at most one year of general internship training. Emergency medical care, as well as health care in general, had been one of the great prides of the Soviet system. Nevertheless, this system suffered from lapses in quality of care. Most physicians are poorly trained. Medical technology in most places is 20-100 years (abartili gibi geldi G.K.) behind that in the West.
