Abstract

James Casebere ve Thomas Demand'ın sanat pratikleri üzerinden modelleme ve fotoğraf ilişkisi Bu araştırma, modelleme ve fotoğraf ilişkisini James Casebere ile Thomas Demand’ın sanatsal pratikleri aracılığıyla ele almaktadır. Casebere ve Demand, kurdukları modeller yoluyla, kitlesel medyanın sunduğu gerçekliğin temsil niteliğini sorgulayan sanatçılar olarak 20. yüzyılın son çeyreğinde öne çıkarlar. Her iki sanatçının da üretimleri, toplumsal hafızaya kazınmış imgeleri referans alırken; bu imgelerin kurmaca niteliğine ve manipülasyonuna işaret eder. Araştırma, bu sanatçıların modelleme temelli üretimlerinin fotoğrafın belgeleyici doğasını nasıl sorguladığını tartışırken; aynı zamanda mekân, temsil ve gerçeklik kavramları arasındaki ilişkileri kuramsal bir çerçevede ele almaktadır. Fotoğraf ve modelleme üzerine geliştirilmiş kuramsal yaklaşımlar, sanatçıların üretimine mercek tutan yayınlar, röportajlar ve sergi kataloglarını da içeren literatür taramalarından beslenen bu tez çağdaş sanat bağlamında modelleme ve fotoğraf ilişkisinin eleştirel bir değerlendirmesini sunmayı amaçlamıştır.

The relationship between modelling and photography through the artistic practices of James Casebere and Thomas Demand This study examines the relationship between modelling and photography through the artistic practices of James Casebere and Thomas Demand. Casebere and Demand emerged in the last quarter of the twentieth century as artists who, through themodels they construct, question the representational nature of the reality presented by mass media. Both artists’ works reference images embedded in collective memory, highlighting their constructed nature and susceptibility to manipulation. While discussing how these artists’ model-based practices interrogate the documentary character of photography, the study also theoretically addresses the relationships between space, representation, and reality. Drawing on theoretical approaches to photography and modelling, as well as a literature review including publications, interviews, and exhibition catalogues that focus on the artists’ work, this thesis aims to offer a critical assessment of the relationship between modelling and photography within the context of contemporary art.
