Abstract
Compassion Fatigue and Professional Commitment of Nurses Taking an Active Role in the Pandemic Student Name, Surname: Betül ATABEK Supervisor Name: Bilgi GÜLSEVEN KARABACAK Program Name: Nursing Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the compassion fatigue and occupational commitment of nurses who took an active part in the pandemic. Material and Methods: The aim of this study is to determine the compassion fatigue and professional commitment of nurses who took an active role in the pandemic. The study is a cross-sectional, descriptive study. It was carried out with 220 nurses actively working in a state hospital between February 15 and April 2022. Research data were collected with Information Form, Compassion Fatigue Short Scale and Nursing Professional Engagement Scale. NCSS (Number Cruncher Statistical System) 2007 (Kaysville, Utah, USA) program was used for statistical analysis. Data were evaluated with Shapiro-Wilk Test, Kruskall-Wallis Test, Mann-Whitney U Test, Spearman's Correlation Analysis and Multiple Linear Regression Analysis Results: : Compassion Fatigue Short Scale total score ranged from 14 to 125, with a mean of 58.9±27.59. The total score of the Nursing Professional Commitment Scale ranged from 31 to 99, with an average of 66.91±12.63. Compassion Fatigue Short Scale mean scores were higher in women than in men (p=0.001; p<0.05), compared to the group whose distance between the hospital they worked and the place they lived was close (p=0.001; p<0.05) and those who were far away. low (p=0.001; p<0.05) was found to be statistically significant. No statistically significant correlation was found between the Compassio Conclusion:. Nurses' compassion fatigue was found to be low and their commitment to the profession was found to be moderate. Pandemic, nurse, mercy fatigue, commitment to the profession
