Publication: Şahsiyetin oluşumunda ailenin rolü
Abstract
When thinking about the future of family life, we have to consider moral ethics that individuals can be affected by. Family bases all our psychological life with its structure throughout the centuries. Family, functioning with a moral structure, has got its mission of caring and supporting individual improvement and socialization proccess despite economical difficulties. For a child, family, as a media it breeds in, has got utmost importance that no one can ever deny. Turkish family has got its extra value to tie the child to even after they become mature. One lives with the traces they bring from their families for the rest of their lives. Therefore, it is clear enough to say that it is the family that shapes the society to some extent through the individuals it develops and shapes. A child learns how to react to the samples of socially accepted values and norms, and it socializes in the family the way family itself considers socialization to be. Researches done by sociologists and psychologists prove that a child's first experiences in the family form the basis of its personality. Man is a socio-biological creature. The biological side of him is accepted not to change, but social norms do not always mean the same thing to him depending on the family he has been brought up and the neighborhood he comes from. Social values a child has are important to define sort of personality he has. A child picks up social values from his family, school and close environment. I see the effect of the family on a child as the role of a sculptor on the sculpture. Parents attitude towards each other and the family members as a whole greatly affect the result. In a futher study, I plan to have another look at the other effects, such as school and environment, determining child's personality. In this study, I focused on the effect of family and other external factors on the child's personality development process. I think the role of family is the greatest one on the child.
