Socio-economic determinants of property crime in turkey

Abstract

Bu çalışma, mülkiyet suçlarının sosyo-ekonomik belirleyicilerini araştırmaktadır. 2008-2017 yılları arasında 81 ilin verileri kullanılarak gerçekleştirilen bu çalışmada, bağımsız değişken olarak, erkek işsizlik oranı, erkeklerde lise ve üzeri tamamlanmış eğitim düzeyi oranı, enflasyon, kişi başına düşen GSYH, bir şehre göç eden kişi sayısı, GINI katsayısı, nüfus yoğunluğu verileri kullanılmıştır. Türkiye’de hem işlenen toplam suçların nüfusa oranı, hem de işlenen mülkiyet suçlarının toplam suç içerisindeki payı artmaktadır. Bu bağlamda, bin kişiye düşen suç sayısını açıklamak adına, sabit etkiler modelinden faydalanılmıştır. Sonuçlar, erkeklerde lise ve üzeri tamamlanmış eğitim düzeyinin, göç miktarının, enflasyon ve kişi başına düşen GSYH’nin mülkiyet suçları üzerinde arttırıcı etkisinin olduğunu göstermektedir.

This study investigates the socio-economic determinants of property crimes. In this study, which was conducted by using the data of 81 provinces between 2008 and 2017; as independent variables, the data on male unemployment, the rate of completed education level of high school and above, inflation, per capita GDP, the migration count, GINI coefficient, and population density were used. The ratios of total crime and population also property crime and population are increasing in Turkey. In this context, fixed effects model was used to explain the number of crimes per thousand people. The results show that increase in high level of completed education (male), migration, level of inflation and GDP per capita has an increasing effect on property crimes.
