Publication: Etnik ve ulusal toplulukların sinematik temsili bağlamında Türk sinemasında Rus imajı
Abstract
Cinema, which has an important place in people's lives since its birth, is not only an entertainment tool or fine art form that develops and becomes popular depending on technology, but also a phenomenon that has social importance and functions. There is a reciprocal relationship between cinematic productions and society, and within this relationship, cinematic products are affected by social conditions and factors, and in turn, cinematic productions affect society in terms of the quality of the content they offer to the audience. In this context, cinematic representation, which comes to the forefront, has an increasing importance from an academic point of view. Another issue that comes to the fore in the context of cinematic representation is how ethnic and national communities are represented in cinematic productions such as films and television series. In this context, the subject of this thesis is how the Russians are represented as a national community in films made in Turkey and the analysis of the social, political, historical and cultural factors underlying these representations. In this qualitative study, sociological film analysis technique has been used and a total of forty one films involving Russian characters have been examined. Turkish films including Russian characters have been determined via searches of tal platforms like Yotube and TSA (Turkish Cinema Researches). With this study, it is aimed to examine the cinematic representation of the Russians, a national community that has not been discussed before in the context of the relationship between cinema and society, and thus to fill a gap in this field.
