Abstract
Lise Öğrencilerinde Algılanan Sosyal Destek Düzeyi İle Ebeveyn Ergen İlişkisi Niteliğinin Sigara Kullanımı Üzerine Etkisi Öğrencinin Adı: Gülşah TAŞTANDanışmanı: Prof.Dr.
The Effects of the Perceived Social Support Level of High School Students and Parent-Adolescent Relationship Quality on Smoking Student: Gülşah TAŞTANAdvisor: Prof.Dr. Şule ECEVİT ALPARDepartment: Department of NursingPurpose: This research examines the effects of the perceived social support level of high school students and parent-adolescent relationship quality on smoking.Material and Method: The population of this research consists of the students receiving education in Mamak, Ankara while the research sample contains 4074 students, in total, according to their school types. The data were collected using personal information form, Multi-dimensional Perceived Social Support Scale and Parent-Adolescent Relationship Quality Scale. As regards to the analysis of the difference among categorical variables, t test was used for the analyses of any two groups while one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was applied for more than two groups. Statistical significance level was accepted to be p<0,05.Results: According to the results, there was a statistically significant relationship between smoking and gender, age, peer smoking, divorce of parents, domestic violence against adolescence, smoking family members and school types (p<0,05). The starting age of smoking was found to vary between 5 and 18. Hence, the average age of first smoking was 13,27±2,317. There was a statistically significant difference between Multi-dimensional Perceived Social Support and smoking (p<0,05). Similarly, there was also a statistically significant difference between Parent-Adolescent Relationship Quality and smoking (p<0,05).Conclusion: The adolescents with better parent-adolescent relationship smoked less while the adolescents who had such relationship to the contrary smoked more. On the other hand, the adolescents with high multi-dimensional perceived social support levels demonstrated less smoking while the adolescents with lower levels smoked more.Key Words: Addiction, social relationship, student, parent, quality.
