Social Perspective of Sustainable Consumption, A Case Study for Toothpaste Boxes

Abstract

Tüketimdeki hızlı artış, doğal kaynakları yok olma aşamasına getiriyor. Mevcut tüketim alışkanlıkların olası ekolojik etkileri, aşırı tüketim, sürdürülemez tüketim kalıplarını ve sürdürülebilir tüketim gibi kavramları ön plana çıkarmıştır. 12.07.2019 tarihinde yayınlanan Sıfır Atık Yönetmeliği ile Türkiye'de atık azaltımı zorunlu hale gelmiştir. Geri dönüştürülebilir atıklar arasında ambalaj atıkları önemli bir paya sahiptir. Sürdürülebilir tüketimin en önemli noktası sosyal yönüdür, ancak genellikle göz ardı edilir. Bu çalışmada sürdürülebilir tüketimin toplumsal bakış açısına ışık tutulması amaçlanmıştır. Bu kapsamda pilot ürün olarak diş macunu kutuları seçilmiş ve tüketicilerin diş macunu kutuları kullanımına yaklaşımları araştırılmıştır. 300 katılımcıya anket uygulandı. Araştırma sonucunda, katılımcıların %90,7'sinin diş macunu kutularının çıkarılmasını olumlu veya kısmen olumlu karşıladığı görülmüştür. Sürdürülebilir kalkınma, sürdürülebilir ekonomi ve döngüsel ekonomi konularında farkındalık düzeyinin yüksek olmadığı; Kişilerin yönlendirilmesinde eksiklikler olduğu tespit edildi. Elde edilen sonuçların karar vericilere ve uygulayıcılara sürdürülebilir tüketimi daha etkin bir şekilde benimsemeleri için yol gösterici olacağı düşünülmektedir.

The rapid increase in consumption brings natural resources to the stage of extinction. The possible ecological effects of current consumption patterns have highlighted concepts such as excessive consumption, unsustainable consumption patterns, and sustainable consumption. Waste reduction in Turkey has become mandatory with the Zero Waste Regulation published in 12.07.2019. Among the recyclable wastes, packaging wastes hold a significant portion. The most significant point of sustainable consumption is its social aspect however it is often overlooked. In this study, it was aimed to shed light on to social perspective of sustainable consumption. In this context, toothpaste boxes were selected as a pilot product and consumers' approaches to using toothpaste boxes were investigated. A questionnaire was applied to 300 participants. As a result of the study, it was observed that 90.7% of the participants viewed the removal of the toothpaste boxes positively or partially. It was revealed that the level of awareness on sustainable development, sustainable economy, and circular economy are not high; It determined that there were deficiencies in the directing of individuals. It is thought that the obtained results would be a guide for decision-makers and practitioners to adopt sustainable consumption more effectively.
