Publication: Özel gereksinimli çocuk sahibi annelerin COVID-19 pandemi deneyimlerine ilişkin görüşlerinin incelenmesi
Abstract
2019 yılı Aralık ayı sonunda Çin’de ortaya çıkan yeni bir tür koronavirüsü 2020 yılıboyunca tüm dünyayı etkisi altına almıştır. Hala devam etmekte olan pandeminin etkileri,pandemi bittikten sonra da devam edecek gibi görünmektedir. Bu araştırmada COVID-19pandemisinde özel gereksinimli çocuk sahibi annelerin deneyimlerine ilişkin görüşlerininincelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaçla araştırmada anne görüşlerine göre, pandemininkendileri üzerindeki etkileri, pandeminin çocukları üzerindeki etkileri, pandeminin günlükyaşamları üzerindeki etkileri, uzaktan eğitimin özel gereksinimli çocuklar ve anneleritarafından nasıl deneyimlendiği ve benzer bir krizin yaşanması durumunda özel gereksinimliçocuklara ve ailelerine sunulabilecek hizmetlerin neler olabileceği, alt amaçlar olarakbelirlenmiş ve ilgili yanıtlar aranmıştır. Araştırmanın katılımcıları İstanbul’da yaşayan veözel gereksinimli çocuğu olan 11 anneden oluşmaktadır. Araştırma fenomenolojik deseninkullanıldığı nitel bir araştırmadır. Araştırma verileri yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler iletoplanmıştır. Veriler betimsel analiz yöntemi ile analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma bulgularınagöre özel gereksinimli çocuk sahibi anneler COVID-19 pandemisinden duygusal anlamdaolumsuz etkilenmişlerdir. Anneler eğitsel, psikolojik ve maddi açıdan destek ihtiyacıduymuşlardır. Pandemi döneminde özel gereksinimli çocuklar duyuşsal ve davranışsalproblemler göstermişlerdir. Özel eğitimden mahrum kalmak çocukların kaydettikleriilerlemeyi kaybetmelerine ya da annelerin çocuklarının eğitimi ile ilgili kaygılanmasınaneden olmuştur. Anneler, yetkililer tarafından önerilen önlem ve kurallara uymuştur.Anneler özel gereksinimli çocukları için yüzyüze eğitimi gerekli gördüklerini ve uzaktaneğitimin kendilerini ve çocuklarını zorladığını paylaşmışlardır. Pandemi döneminde eviçinde anneler ağırlıklı olarak öğretmenlerin gönderdikleri ödevlere zaman harcamışlar veçocuklarıyla oyun oynamışlardır. Annelere göre COVID-19 benzeri bir krizin yaşanmasıhalinde özel gereksinimli çocukların eğitsel ihtiyaçları yapılacak düzenlemelerlekarşılanmaya devam edilmelidir. Benzer bir durumda gerekli düzenlemelerle ailelerepsikososyal destek ve sağlık hizmetleri sunulmalıdır. Araştırmada bulgular doğrultusundayasa koyuculara, uygulamaya ve ileri araştırmalara yönelik önerilere yer verilmiştir.
A new type of coronavirus that emerged in China at the end of December 2019 hasaffected the whole world throughout 2020. The effects of the ongoing pandemic seem tocontinue after the pandemic is over. In this study, it is aimed to investigate the opinions ofmothers who have children with special needs on their COVID-19 pandemic experiences.For this purpose, according to the mothers' opinions; the effects of the pandemic onthemselves, the effects of the pandemic on their children, the effects of the pandemic on theirdaily lives, how distance education is experienced by children with special needs and theirmothers, and what services could be offered to children with special needs and their familiesin case of a similar crisis have been determined as sub-objectives and relevant answers havebeen sought. The participants of the study consist of 11 mothers who live in Istanbul andhave children with special needs. The research is a qualitative research utilizingphenomenological design. The research data were collected through semi-structuredinterviews. The data were analyzed by descriptive analysis method. The findings of theresearch show that the mothers of children with special needs were emotionally affected bythe COVID-19 pandemic. Mothers were in need of educational, psychological and financialsupport. During the pandemic, emotional and behavioral problems were experienced bychildren with special needs. The lack of special education resulted in the loss of children’sprogress or increase in the anxiety of mothers about the educational needs of their children.Mothers have followed the precautions and rules recommended by the authorities. Mothersshared that they found face-to-face education essential for their children with special needsand distance education was challenging for them and their children. During the pandemic,mothers mainly spent time doing the works assigned by teachers and played with their kids.According to mothers, in case of a crisis similar to COVID-19, the educational needs ofchildren with special needs should continue to be met through regulations. In a similarsituation, psychosocial support and health services should be provided to families with thenecessary regulations. In the research, suggestions for legislators, practice, and furtherresearch were included in line with the findings.
