Hadislerde iffet meselesi

Abstract

Arapçadan Türkçeye tercüme edilirken kelimeler ve kavramlar anlam kaybına uğrayabilmektedir. İffet kavramı da anlam kaybına uğramış kelimelerden biridir. Zira iffet, toplumda ahlakî bir erdem olarak kabul edilir ve çoğunlukla hayâ ile ilişkilendirilerek cinsel anlamda günahlardan uzak durmak şeklinde tanımlanır. Ancak iffet kavramının Kur’an-ı Kerim ve hadislerdeki kullanımı, en dar anlamıyla insanlara el açmaktan uzak durma ve namusunu koruyarak zinaya bulaşmamaktır. Bununla birlikte İslam ahlak felsefesinde temel bir erdem olarak kabul edilen iffet, sehâ (cömertlik), vera‘ (sakınma), sabır, rıfk (yumuşak huyluluk) gibi pek çok kavramla ilişkilendirilmiştir. Dolayısıyla iffet kavramı incelenirken tüm bu anlam yelpazesi dikkate alınmalıdır. Tezimizde, Hz. Peygamber (s.a.v.)’in iffeti hangi anlamda kullandığı, hadislerde iffetin hangi manaları çağrıştırdığı tespit edilmiştir. Bir kavram ve bir mesele olarak iffetin hadislerdeki kullanım alanlarını tespit etmek tezimizdeki amaçtır. Bu amaç gerçekleştirirken öncelikle iffetin en genel anlamıyla neleri çağrıştırdığı belirlenmiştir. İffetin ilişkili olduğu kelimeler ve kavramlar tespit edilmiştir. İslam ahlak felsefesindeki kullanımları dikkate alınmıştır. Bunlardan elde edilen sonuçlara göre hadislerde iffet kavramının doğrudan ve dolaylı kullanımları incelenmiş ve anlam yelpazesi ortaya koyulmuştur. İffet ile ilgili çeşitli çalışmalar yapılmış olsa da çoğunluğu iffeti ahlakî bir konu olarak ele almıştır. Yapılan çalışmalar genellikle Hz. Yusuf ve Hz. Meryem özelinde hayâ ile ilişkilendirilerek ve iffetin Kur’an-ı Kerim’deki kullanımıyla alakalıdır. Bizim çalışmamızın bunlardan farkı iffetin sadece ahlakî bir kavram olarak incelenmesinden ziyade hadislerde hangi anlamlarda ve hangi kavramlarla ilişkili olarak kullanıldığını tespit ederek kavramsal analizini yapmak ve iffetin kavramsal çerçevesini hadislerden temellendiren bir çalışma olmasıdır.When translating from Arabic to Turkish, words and concepts can often lose their meanings. One such term that has suffered from semantic loss is the concept of ‘iffah’ (chastity). In society, ‘iffah’ is commonly considered a moral virtue and is often associated with modesty, typically defined as abstaining from sinful sexual behavior. However, in the context of the Qur'an and Hadith, the term ‘iffah’ is used, in its most restricted sense, to mean refraining from begging others and preserving one's honor by avoiding adultery. Furthermore, in Islamic moral philosophy, ‘iffah’ is regarded as a fundamental virtue and is associated with various concepts such as generosity (seha), abstinence (wara'), patience (sabr), and gentleness (rifq). Therefore, when examining the concept of ‘iffah’, one must consider this broad spectrum of meanings. In our thesis, the meanings attributed to ‘iffah’ by the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and the connotations of ‘iffah’ in the Hadiths are identified. The aim of this study is to determine the contexts in which the concept of ‘iffah’ is employed in the Hadiths, both as a concept and as an issue. In pursuit of this aim, we first identify the most general meanings that ‘iffah’ evokes. The words and concepts associated with ‘iffah’ are determined, and its usages within Islamic moral philosophy are considered. Based on the findings derived from these considerations, the direct and indirect usages of the concept of ‘iffah’ in the Hadiths are examined, and its range of meanings is revealed. Although there have been various studies on ‘iffah’, the majority of these have approached ‘iffah’ as a purely ethical matter. Most existing studies focus on modesty and are related to the use of ‘iffah’ in the Qur'an, often in the context of the stories of Prophet Yusuf and Maryam. The distinction of our study is that, rather than merely examining ‘iffah’ as an ethical concept, it undertakes a conceptual analysis by identifying the meanings and related concepts of ‘iffah’ as used in the Hadiths, thereby establishing a conceptual framework for ‘iffah’ grounded in the Hadiths.
