Publication: Yaşadığı çağda efsane olmuş bir tıp insanının işyeri hekimi olarak çalışması: Rudolf Virchow ve Troya
Abstract
Hücre teorisini tıbba uyarlayan ünlü hekim Rudolf Virchow arkeoloji ile de ilgilenmiştir. 1879 yılında antik Troya kenti kazılarındaHeinrich Schliemann’a eşlik etmiştir. Schliemann’ın Ilios-The City and Country of the Trojans (Troyalıların Şehri ve Ülkesi İlios)başlıklı kitabında, Virchow önsözün yanı sıra iki de ek (Troy and Hissarlik, Medical Practice in the Troad in 1879) yazmıştır. Tıp tarihiaçısından daha önemli olan ikinci ekte, işyeri hekimi olarak çalıştığından bahsetmiştir. 2018 yılının Türkiye’de Troya Yılı olarak ilanedilmesi münasebetiyle, bu makale tıp tarihindeki dev bir ismin az bilinen bir yönünü hatırlatmayı amaçlamaktadır.
Rudolf Virchow, a well-known physician who adapted the cell theory into the medicine, was also interested in archeology. In 1879, he accompanied Heinrich Schliemann at the excavation site of the antique city of Troy. In the book entitled Ilios-The City and Country of the Trojans by Schliemann, Virchow wrote not only the preface but also two appendices, namely Troy and Hissarlik, and Medical Practice in the Troad in 1879. In the latter that is more important with regard to medical history, he communicated his practice as on-site physician. On the occasion of the declaration of 2018 Year of Troia in Turkey, this article aims to remind a lesserknown feature of a giant name in the history of medicine.
