Publication: Modern Mısır romanında ulusal kimlik inşası (1914-1945)
Abstract
This thesis focuses on the national identity that unites the peoples of the nation-states that emerged in the modern era. Egypt, an important province of the Ottoman Empire, was chosen as the sample of the study. The people who were subjects of the empire before the war sought to discover the national qualities that distinguished them from the other in the new world order. In this context, based on the fact that the nation is not a given phenomenon but a process of construction, it is aimed to reveal the qualities of the nation identity imagined by the Egyptian intellectuals through the works they produced in the field of fiction in the specified period through discourse analysis. It has been revealed that the definition of national identity constructed in Egypt is not monolithic but has a dynamic structure that is renewed in line with the demands of the masses over time.
